So it's come out that next year Nissan will once again return to the V8 grid..

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/motor-racing/nissan-to-return-to-v8-supercars-competition-in-2013/story-e6frfgb6-1226266051719

Long story short, The Kelly Racing Team will defect to Nissan but unlike in the 90's the 'car of the future' will mean pretty much all car's are the same, it will just have a Maxima style shell, though Holden & Ford are rumoured to be unhappy with Nissan's inclusion again (despite what that link says).

Kind of ironic seeing as CAMS changed the rules to keep Nissan out 20 yrs ago. It might be exciting, but I see it as just another Falcodore with a different skin so I wont be rushing to watch it.

They say a change is as good as a holiday,so I'm feeling positive about this. My money's on it being an infiniti shell, possibly with the 4.5l nissan V8.

I'd be very surprised if toyota didn't get on board as well. Rumour has it that one of the euros may be in next as they're working on making the series global.

It's gotta be a 5 litre V8 - and agree bout the inifinity shell seeing that they are bringing Infinity here again.

Would love to see some Red Bull sponsorship on them too!

Rumour is they'll use the Altima with a Nissan V8 engine, apparently Chrysler will be in next, Toyota will probably come in after that

Are you sure about that bit? Last I heard was it was a LIMIT of 5 litres capacity, with a rev limit of 7500rpm. Beyond that, engines are free.

Vitty: I believe Chrysler is going to use a variant of the 300C.

i think they've decided on a totally new shape

sort of like the infiniti, 350z sedan sorta thing
but it will be a 370z 4 door sedan variant

also they will have to use a 5L pushrod v8, so they will have to create a whole new motor

every manufacturer gets given the same frame, it's up to you what panels you wanna bolt onto it, this keeps things fair to some extent

and in my opinion, 100% the winner will not be a falcon or commodore

Do the rules specify the design of the engine? I thought only capacity and max rev limit were mentioned.

If the rules do specify a pushrod v8 (which I doubt,it's not nascar),all they'd do is run a ford or chev engine. The series is only sillhouettes anyway,it makes no difference what powerplant is used.
If the rules don't specify design, they'd likely run something of their own, possibly the 4.5L nissan quad cam V8,which they may stretch to 5l to not lose capacity against the other brands. it would be better marketing for the company to run their own engine, especially a smaller, more efficient one.

Only capacity and cylinders are control - engine design is open.

I'd expect some nice technology, quad cams, etc etc.
