Post subject:  Defect clearance re. Blue slips

Hi, im just after advice on rego'ing a defective vehicle, ok here goes:

The car is a 180sx, defects were Pod(chasing a stock airbox), Exaust too loud(need a middle muffler and db cert, both from an exaust shop?) and bov, (have a plumb back TO install), also, i have a front mount and 16's.

Questions

1. I have paid the defect fine(3+ years ago) but did not clear the defects. The car has been sitting in my yard scince, will a blue slip clear my defects and then all i should need is rego and ctp?

2. For a blue slip pass, if i was to run the front mount, unengineered, but painted black with black pipine and silicone, but maybe silver clamps? Is it worth the effort and expense for black? I am aware that it is dependent on the workshop, but i intend to try around. My plumbback bov is a blue turbosmart, should i maybe obtain a black 'stealth' model? Also, am running the battery in the boot, its in a battery box and a sealed battery, but should i get a smaller battery for blue slip to have sideways in the tray under the bonnet?

To clear defects, the exact items you were defected for will be inspected.

Painting parts black doesn't make them comply. You will need an engineer's cert if you want to keep the car as it is.

The BOV should be fine,if it's been plumbed back. The rest require attention.

Ok thanks, so will the defects be listed on the vehicle's records until cleared? will the blue slip clear them or do i require a seperate inspection?

That all depends on what it says on the defect notice. Most likely, the blue slip will clear them.

Erm, just had a look and i seem to have lost the notice, it has been paid but it was around three and a half years ago. From memory it said exaust to be returned to standard, pod and bov to be removed.
Better question, is it worth going to the rta and talking to them? Worst case, engineers cert will clear me for blueslip and cancel the defects?

Annual car inspection is enough.
