Hey Guys,

So i'm looking to buy a 200sx S15 soonish but I have a teeny tiny issue. I can't drive a manual. (don't laugh) I'm thinking of buying one outright and getting some lessons. (1st option)

Do you think this is bad idea or maybe i should get something cheap to learn on and save the 200 for when i actually know how to handle a manual (2nd option), especially a turbo.

I KNOW the second option is the most obviously sensible one but i guess i just want to know if the 1st option is something i can get away with.

I thought you current Silvia drivers would be the best to ask, i don't know anyone personally that owns one so any advice would be appreciated. Tried asking on another forum but didn't get much of a response.

Thanks

If you wait a while S15s will be cheaper :)

Like they're not cheap now...

I would suggest getting a cheap RWD car to practice on before buying a turbo silvia. Understanding throttle control, gearshift & clutch control techniques and RWD handling dynamics before you step into a turbocharged car will keep you in one piece for a lot longer.

My missus' inexperience destroyed her S14. Coming out of FWD manuals and into an S14 was fine, until one day when she got frustrated in traffic when it had just started raining. one quick upshift while trying to go around a slow moving car put her into a slide she couldn't recover from and over the median strip she went, into oncoming traffic, and the car was a write off.

Practice and experience play a big part in surviving on the road.

Hope your missus was OK Fergo

I've been driving rwd's since I got my license, Old Commodores with close to zilch traction in the wet so i'm pretty confident about handling a rwd in those conditions without sliding out or fish tailing.

Had a 2 hr lesson today which went ok. I'll probably see how the following lessons goes before i decide to get a cheapy to practise on or wether to just fork out for more lessons and get the car. :D

Yeah, she was ok,just shaken up and a little sore, nothing serious.

If you're used to RWD already that's a good start. Get a few more lessons, and then go test drive one at a car yard.
See how you go from there.
