Post subject:  Be carefull buying a c.f bonnet...

Before I start, moderators feel free to delete the names of the buisness.
But the people should know.

To keep a very long story short.
I bought a cf bonnet from unique autosports a while ago, and after a few months these white cloudy marks started to appear under the surface.
These marks got worse and worse and still continue to.

I paid good money for this bonnet, and had a look at a mates second hand one which happens to be parked outside 24/7. Not a single thing wrong with it.

So I ring u.a and although they appeared to be on my side, there was another player in this drama.

Carmate. I bought the bonnet off u.a and u.a gets the bonnets from them.

So after I kept receiving third hand information, I decided to speak to carmate directly.

From what they said It is my fault, because I should hose the bonnet down when it gets hot to prevent this problem.

What the fuck!

I was never told this at any point and I have never heard this before.

My father inlaw, a panel beater all his life said it is deffinately made wrong, it should never have happened.

So after they claim to have 'grade A quality' and a 'protective UV coating that holds its high gloss finnish' consider all this before you shell out 1100 odd dollars...

Oh and after both parties received my bonnet for inspection, jackshit eventuated and I have this piece of shit bonnet back on my car.

EDIT: I will get photos up tomorow to show you what I'm talkng about.

So the moral to the story is that Carmate stuff is crap and they don't support their product? I thought that was common knowledge

have u considered talk to fair trading? I think U.A is responsible, even though they source it from Carmate. They sell the product and they should support it, no matter where they come from.

Well, all the best mate

Well i never knew they came from carmate.
I looked on carmates site, then decided to go with u.a because of what I thought would be better quality, considering it was dearer.

Only when I had this problem I found out who gets what from where, I rekon its bullshit though.
Same product, different buisnesess, advertised differently but at different prices.

I didnt want to go that way with fair trading, u.a did their best but as every one told me, they supplied it so they have to fix me up for it.

It has been a while since this happened, but at the time I was told it wasnt a structural fault, and it had been over the warranty time.
So bad luck for me.

And if you were wondering why im posting now is because I only just looked at carmates site and read their desciption of their cf bonnets.

I wouldnt of bought it from carmate, thats why i went with u.a.
But its the same thing...

Sorry to hear about what happened,
hope your not going to sit there and cop the loss. like what others have said. you should go talk to department of fair trading. U.A mite seem like they are nice and are trying to help you, but legally they are responsible for the defect products. It was their choice to buy from carmate at wholesale price and then sell the product to the public at retail price. They make profit from each sale in which they must take responsibility for product failure. (same reason why Garrett doesnt deal with public but sell through GCG, which then sells to the public and dealing with all the customer relations).

The Fair Trading Act 1987 No 68, s44:
A person shall not, in trade or commerce, in connection with the supply or possible supply of goods or services or in connection with the promotion by any means of the supply or use of goods or services
a) falsely represent that goods are of a particular standard, quality, value, grade, composition, style or model or have had a particular history or particular previous use,

and U.A made alot of claims as you said.

Just go back and threaten them that you will take legal action.
hope all goes well. keep us posted on what happens.
