More Love from the RTA for Modified Car Owners

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image

The RTA has introduced more draconian laws that again target modified car enthusiasts in an attempt to keep our roads safe. The long and the short of it is, raising or lowering your vehicle more than 50mm will be classed as a major modification (yes these guys are serious).

It is suggested that if you wish to raise or lower your vehicle you should seek the advice of an RTA approved engineer first and foremost.

Also when it comes to airbags, they are not completely ruled out however they must meet these same specs ie unable to raise or lower more then 50mm from stock ride height - which defeats the purpose of adding air suspension to your car really.

ALSO it should be noted that if you do raise or lower your car then it HAS to be blue slipped by an Authorised Examiner - failure to do so will yup you guessed it result in a fine / defect / registration suspended or cancelled.

Download the RTA pdf for all the finer details on this new law - HERE.

What is being done so far is an online petition has been setup (i’ve included the first few paragraphs below) that we can all sign. However these things don’t really get anywhere unless people get in the face of the law makers. I’m not saying start up an association and hold regular ‘beat a pollie days’, more that we need to start working together whether it be ford / holden or V8 / turbo / rotary etc - all car enthusiasts need to pull their fingers out and start to become more proactive. We’re letting these pollies and the media kick us about far too much.

“With Strict new laws being implemented by the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority affecting the raising and lowering of suspension on any light motor vehicle, we the Enthusiasts are majorly affected with seemingly nothing that we can do to stop our passion and livelihood in some cases to be destroyed by misinformed state government figures.

We have a passion, a passion for cars and trucks. The Majority of Vehicle enthusiasts are not young P plater “hoons” as the media portray, but in fact people of all ages and backgrounds who share something in common which is the modification of their most prized possetion, their cars.

These new laws that Mr Michael Daley (NSW roads minister) has introduced, affect all aspects of vehicle modifiers state wide.

No statistics have been shown to the public of raised or lowered motor vehicles being the cause of accidents or even increasing the liklihood of an accident !……”
