hi all, once again i have been defected, this time they had a defect station set up the road and the EPA were there. My two main concerns are the boost controller needs to come out and the std airbox needs to go in.

Now im guessing i need to get the std boost solenoid installed in order to pass, can i do this myself or does it involve getting the car retuned?

Also i have got a custom pipe made up with the Z32 AFM installed, the std box wont fit there isnt enough room with the custom pipe and AFM, is there any smalller air boxes that i could use?

i have the standard boost solanoid if needed. You can get a plastic/carbon fibre air panel box or ask Alex from Birrong Automotive. You would just need to cut a slightly larger diameter hole for the Intake pipe to go thru..

Is this a AUVIS/AIVIS inspection and a full inspection or part inspection>?

i got the std boost soleniod at home so i can put it back in, and i do have a custom air box already made up which RTA/police were happy with but EPA wouldnt accept anything except std pretty much.

i need to go to an EPA authorised mechenic, i think there are only a few of them around.

best chance at passing is to get the stock airbox in, cause you can still get done with a pod enclosure, even if it means getting the stock intake pipe and AFM.

i'm guessing by the z32. that you will have an ecu of some sort, other than stock. stock boost with stock airbox and see how the car runs. you may need a retune.

yeah i got a PFC and a bigger turbo, ill put the std boost controller back on and see what happens, i am going to try and keep the z23 afm there and try and fit the box where the pod enclosure is at the moment.

why bother refitting the solenoid to go get the defect cleared?

remove the ebc,run the actuator straight off of the intercooler piping, and neaten it up so it looks std. it's not like they're going to know the difference.
it'll run all of 3-4psi like that, but that's all you need to run through an epa emissions test anyway. the less boost the better as your emissions level will be lower.

redrill a std airbox to fit the Z32. fit it on an angle if you have to. if there's no way it's going in,try a skyline airbox. different angle and made for the larger afm. might do the trick.

i agree with fergo.

For the sake of clearing the defect just run a signal straight to the actuator, don't worry about the stock boost control setup.

An r32 gtst air box is a good thing and can be made to fit a lot of cars.

It also sits high enough that you can hide a blitz solenoid underneath it ;)

i dont have to get an emmisions test and they didnt see the PFC as it is in the glovebox.

they said i have the option of keeping the intercooler and doing an emissions test or taking it off to pass. im just going to take it off as the car will never pass emissions with its current setup

I was told this is a grey zone, similarily for engineering purposes. You certinally can if you have a tune which complies with EPA regs for your car....which will have to be tested at nominated EPA compliant testing centres.

i know that some people have passed with after market computers, i think it just depends on how much you can detune your car to make sure it will pass emissions.

ok then, just a quick question, i am taking off the Boost solinoid but i was wondering what i need to do with the second vaccum line.
It goes to a T piece, if you follow the hoses one goes under the Throttle body and another connects to the cruise control unit.

photos attached

Can i just bock that vaccum hose off or should i put the std solinoid back on?[/img]
