Post subject:  registration suspended.

i need to get some defects cleared by the EPA, however i might not be able to do it before the date they have given me which means they will suspend my rego. i have a few questions about this.

if i go to the EPA station before the date given to me and dont pass do they give me another 4 weeks to pass?

If they suspend my license can i still drive the car for the purpose of clearing the defects. i.e to the mechanic to get the defects cleared?

after the defects are cleared and if the rego is suspended do you have to completely register the car or do you just need to get the pink slip and thats it?

If your LICENCE is suspended, don't drive the car anywhere other than to a hospital in a life-or-death situation.

If your rego is suspended, you can drive the car to a mechanics/RTA for inspection purposes, but you have to phone them first and organise the trip; if a cop pulls you over, he'll phone them to make sure youre actually going where you say you are. If they don't know youre coming, youre fucked.

If you clear the defects while rego is suspended, just go into the RTA with the cleared papers and theyll tick the box to reinstate your rego.

If you leave it long enough, theyll CANCEL your rego, at which point you need to return your number plates, get the car blueslipped, greenslipped, pay another years rego, pay for new plates...

mybad sorry they are not suspending licesne they will just suspend rego. thanks for the answers pretty much answered everything. my rego runs out in November anyways so i am thinking of just clearing the defects in my own time and then get then wait till the car needs to be registered again. its 3 months then you need a blueslip isnt it?

Yep. However you'll want to check how long the RTA gives you to clear the defect. You definitely don't want them to change you from 'suspended' to 'cancelled' - its a right prick.

I don't think they give you long to clear the defects once on the suspended period. (think of the suspended period like running out of rego, then the cancelled period as blueslip time).
