move this thread if necessary. didnt know where to post..

after having a quick read of this http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/index ... Button.y=4
i thought it'd be useful to point out to any body in NSW that is thinking about modyfying your car and pretty much weigh out the benefits of modding.. (i know after i have enough points on my license, i'd be reinstalling some of my mods LOL)

for those that currently have less than 3pts, you might want to fix your car up or else risk loosing your license if getting pulled over according to these rules below..

i found alot of these very surprising and didnt know that demerit pts were involved ! learnt something new and hope this will save some of you guys if you happen to get an asshole of a cop

*got bride or recaro seats ?
USE VEHICLE NOT COMPLY WITH STANDARD
Defective seating $243 3pts

*nardi , momo , sparco steering wheel ?
USE VEHICLE NOT COMPLY WITH STANDARD
Defective steering $243 3pts

*got a seatbelt thats slightly torn or damaged ?
USE VEHICLE NOT COMPLY WITH STANDARD
Seatbelt missing/defective $243 3pts

*numberplate moved from oem position ?
NUMBER PLATES
Use vehicle with obscured/defaced/illegible number plate
CLASS A MOTOR VEHICLE$324 3pts

*having a smoke ? or just relaxing your hand outside the window ?
SAFETY OF DRIVER/PASSENGERS
Part of body outside vehicle window/door (driver/passenger)$243 3pts

theres a few more weird ones.. but you guys can have a read for yourself..

none of those are new,and you've not understood them correctly.

the 'not comply with standard' refers to being unsafe -not in decent enough condition to pass a pink slip, not an aftermarket part.

and the last point, that's just common sense. if you're hanging your arms out the window, you can get hit. if you're hanging a lit cigarette out the window and dropping ash on my car as I follow behind you in traffic,or are flicking the butt away when you're done I hope you get fined.
the ashtray is in the dash for a reason. if you don't want to make the inside of your car filthy, then don't smoke in it,simple.

Fergo: Based on those rule, if I've taken the back seats out of the sil80, do you think they can hit me up with that 3point fine? Would It hold up in court if i challenged it?

i agree on what ferg said...

i think its got to do with it being unsafe of passing a pink slip, then there is a problem... but then again..... no idea...

to legally remove the back seat and belts an adjustment of records is required to say from then onwards that the car is a 2 seater.

I don't think an enginner is required for that part, but if you're fitting aftermarket seats other than recaros they are. recaros and genuine recaro rails apparently have ADR certification.

would you be able to get out of it if you went to court? that also depends on what your driving record is like. if it's anything like mine, you might be worse off trying to contest it.
I guess you could argue that the car had been effectively made a 2 seater functionally anyway even without it having been done on paper,so you wouldn't be able to carry anyone unrestrained regardless, but how they'd take that I don't know for sure.

highway patrol officers (the people who'll ping you for that sort of thing) and lawyers like to have all the i's dotted and t's crossed and if an i can be taken as a j and that helps their case, that's what they'll argue.

personally I'd be looking at it along these lines: if I don't get the paperwork done, and I get done for it,I took the risk, and got caught. much like just about every mod these cars have...

Thats the way i looked at it. Towards the end of the r32's life i was becoming very paranoid about driving it even though i had reinstalled a stock air box and put a quiet exhaust on it, had no bov and wasn't particularly low. I'd ticked all the common defect boxes but it was still a very modified car.

Track only car = no stress :D

I didn't forget, and that wasn't angry. obviously you want a bride seat. I'm sorry that wishful thinking doesn't make it legal.

So you dont have to get an engineering cert with an ADR approved seat + rails?
