it's not the same with all jap cars,it depends on how they've been treated.

you can get a dodgy rub back and spray for probably $1500 or so. it won't last all that long...or you can do it properly and spend about four times that to get a proper result that will last a long time.

panelwork is 95% preparation and 5% application. the labour of prepping the car for paint is where most of the cost is.

if my project car costs less than $10k to paint I'll be surprised.\

my car needs a spray as well. i was thinking of doing it myself.

is it heaps hard to do, or it just takes ages?

it would of been fixed up, but the fricken insurance company didnt want to pay for a proper job, i got quoted by a few places to get the scratches fixed, they quoted proper prep and the whole 10 yards, but the insurance company said all that was needed was a rub down and spray

i got so pissed off from that, i have since changed insurer

anyway, sorry to half hijack this thread :(

You can DIY it all yourself, if you prep it all yourself you can save alot of money then get someone else to spray it. If it comes out shitty then you can only blame yourself to haha. Even after you buy a bunch of sandpaper a random orbital sander and a few other things it'll still be cheaper than getting someone else to do it ad you have all the stuff (and some experience) for the next time you do it.
Sanding isn't as bad as people say it is either.
If I can do this outdoors with some hand sanding, spraycans and 2 pak clear (front bar, front guards, sideskirts, front lip, rear pods, rear spoiler and rear tail light trims, the rest is a 'proper' respray) you can achieve much better with proper gear. Note I've not polished it all up yet, that will make the colours match a bit better as the more matte areas look darker than the shinier areas.

And this car me and dad painted in the shed at home using proper gear.

hey neb, that looks good.

ive got a vertex front bar at home that needs to be sanded back and prep'd. i might have a practice on that before i attempt the panels on my car.

I'll do you a white respray for $1000. Not sure how good it will be or how long it will last, but it will be cheap. Less for cash.

Seriously, as has been said before most of the cost is in the prep work. You have to pay for someones time to go over the car and fill in all the little dents, and prep all the panels, remove trims, tape up areas you don't want to be painted, even going so far as to remove the engine out of the bay for a full spray.

The reason your paint is currently peeling is because someone did a cheap job on your car the last time (most likely a cheap clear cote). If the paint is currently peeling, you could be looking at ~$2500 - $4000.

I work in the medical industry.

I'd only be able to offer a shonky backyard spray from a can, or paint with a roller ie not a serious offer. I've organised proper reprays for a couple of mates though, hence how I know the prices.
