if you want a 2JZ buy a supra.

a 2JZ won't fit it into a Z32 by any stretch of the imagination. the bay is both too short and too low to clear the engine. you'll have all kinds of cooling problems even if you get around my first two points as well, with the head being several inches taller than your radiator.

best bang for buck is an R32 GTR. throw $20k at that and it'll move.

you won't be happy with an evo. if you think a worked SR-powered S13 isn't very exciting an evo with it's computer-driven-everything,smooth power delivery and 4wd will have you asleep at the wheel by the end of the block.

this guy must have a wild imagination because he thinks it fits http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=un0mKrZpKbM&NR=1

ok,so someone got one in there, that's great.
30sec of wobbly footage on a dyno doesn't tell you much about how it was done and if it is either legal or worthwhile.

he's had to chop the bonnet, that's about all that link shows you. how was the rest done? have you already researched that or are you going to wing it and hope for the best?

if there any particular reason why you always pick the most oddball and left-field option? what's wrong with buying a car with the engine you want in it originally? you don't like supras? what's there to like about the Z32 that you'd go to that much trouble to bastardise it?

He's just following his past patterns of doing things differently just because he can.

you are correct never been a big fan of the Supras for three reasons.
1) the are too girly looking 2) people expect them to go like a cut snake regardless of the mods 3) There is no suprise people already know there is 2J under the bonnet.

I like the low sleek look of the 300 I always have. Lets face no one is going to cry if you pull a piece of crap like the VG30 out and put in a real engine.

I like left of field I thought that would have been obvious by now :)

Diff, brakes etc are all plenty big enough for moderate power, plenty of tunnel room to run a descent twin exhaust so I can get away from a big noisy single...

Lets face it no one expects a 300zx to actually go.

I dunno, they go a shit ton better than a 350Z in terms of speed, even if they do sometimes have bad road manners with the weight and really annoying to work on. Aside from that, they're not all that bad a car really.

Haven't considered an S15 yet?
Some of them are dipping to the 19k mark now for 'average' to slightly abused ones if you're looking for a project car.

why not put an LS2 in there then? you'll get all of what you want then.

V8 grunt AND ridiculous re-engineering to get things to work.

a Z32 and a supra aren't exactly chalk and cheese. they're both 6cyl turbo coupes, one's just older than the other. I'm all for building unique cars and especially for doing as much as you can yourself, but there has to be a reason for it other than 'because you can'.

how's this for left field, maybe you'll want to try this one instead: get 900 saab, convert it to 4WD and drop in an RB26DETT. you'll have a car that noone pays attention to and a bastard of a time making it work. it might even go fast if you can get it to go.

Nah I think I am over the SR thing. I don't want big cams etc again to make power. Far easier to increase cubes by 50% and keep the mods mild.

I would probably do the same setup again I was reasoanbly happy with it(minus the intake manifold)

I am not really a big fan of the Skylines. I think I was going to go for a body I don't really like I would buy a Supra to save the hassle. Problem with both the Skyline and the Supra is that they are both damn heavy.

I figure and engine change in a 300 should save a few pounds. I would also be looking for the 2 seater version which is shorter and lighter. Then I would give it a serious diet like ditching those heavy factory electric seats for something lighter etc.

Sounds like you've made your mind up.

Not sure why you bother asking for advice when you've already decided what you want to do.

You still haven't even mentioned a purpose for this new car.
