As topic suggests my dad wants a reliable new little car to get around in and for me and my brother to use occasionally.
The options are
Suzuki swift
Mazda 2
toyota yaris
honda jazz
nissan micra(wish it came in manual that would of been the choice)
and that's about it.
So what are your opinions?
im leaning towards the mazda and the swift..
not really a fan of the yaris's dash board

The ones I've driven:

Yaris sucks.
Jazz is slightly better, and doesn't look like a total abortion.

Swift or Mazda 2 would be your best option.

My dad had a mazda2 and that car is one of the roomiest small cars i've been in. And when you needed it to it goes like a rocket. Specially the Genki

I think Genki means warrior in Japanese. Cool ay.

1. Suzuki Swift FTW - only small car out of the lot that's made in Japan, great drive and cheap to run

2. Nisan Micra - Auto only but probably the most economical as it's a 1.3

3. Mazda 2 - cheaper than the Jazz

4. Honda Jazz - roomy and drives well

Just try them out.

5. Toyota Yaris - just ugly in my opinion

to drive maybe, but not to work on. try getting to the plugs...take the whole inlet plenum off first.

my vote out of that lot is the yaris. I've driven and worked on a LOT of them, and they're good, solid, reliable cars,as are pretty much all toyotas.
the handling is decent, better than the Jazz's to be sure. the engine is decent for it's size, and although the electric power steering takes a bit of getting used to,the car is pretty good value overall.

as for it's looks, nothing that size is pretty IMHO. you can only do so much with a modern hatchback shape, and they're all reading from the same playbook.

as was said, drive them all,and make your decision then.

Justin...

weird aye...
as for the S13 n/a and swift gti, starlet and civic vti. Definately all good suggestions and i have thought about second hand cars and in particular the above mentioned but since we plan to keep the car for a while with petrol prices going up and there not that much of a gap in price when you compare DESCENT cars with low k's and standard features(power steering, aircon, power windows) it's better value for money long term for us to buy the car with warranty bla bla bla...plus my old man wants a new car for himself...
old italian men are hard headed once they got their mind set on something and plus my dad always loves small cars cause thats all he could afford/drove in italy. His first car was a fiat 500,we had considered the new ones coming out but they are way overpriced and are marketed as a trendy car to compete with the mini and not what it's predecessor was made for(the peoples car) so we are going for a jap car.. my dad likes the swift the best out of all of them so over the next couple of days we will be test driving the lot and making the verdict :) keep you all posted cheers.
ps if anyone knows of a good aussie spec low k gt spec s or r 2002 model s15 for sale pm me :)

my vote goes for the 2, but... I own a new genki 2, so thats.. expected.

overall very happy with it, but the best thing is the handling.. love it.

I can only imagine how good it would be with the 'full hks' suspension kit, not that ill ever find out.

or that matters..
lol

check youtube, fifth gear just reviewed the new 2.

as for the swift - I found the swift to be cramped? and didnt like the seats
