2ndly the test in n.s.w is free and even if you fail, no record is sent to the r.t.a or e.p.a unless you've been orderd to take an emission's test by the e.p.a or police etc.. so for the moment its free provided you havnt been pinned already for such mod's...

Do you know any places that offer the free emission test?

The RTA's emmisions testing place on York street in Penrith.

basicaly the inspector can send you to e.p.a if you have any induction or exhaust modifications, because it fuck's with the emissions..
for example your car is bog stock, bar a 3"exhaust, they could send you.
i got sent due to having a gredy plenum and front mount at the e.p.a visual inspection for emision control's,

also there's a testing station at botany. r.t.a testing station down there.

if you dont get your defect cleared you can end up with serious fines if you get pulled over again. its better that you do so you dont end up with a big fine

I wonder...
As I understand to get a certificate for FMIC the reo bar has to be left untouched.

But in most cases( as i understand - prove me wrong) with s13/14/15 to get a cooler in, reo bar has to be either cut/trimmed or removed at all.

So what are the workarounds to get a cooler engineered?
In my 180 I just removed the reo, but now I'm thinking about getting a fmic for my s15 and I'd rather get one that doesn't require trimming, anyone knows the brands/models that are truly bolt on in this sense? Don't really care about hole battery tray though...

This should help :) atleast they are accredited so you won't have any hassles after engineering the car.
Some engineers are shonky and black listed so you end up getting bent over twice as hard with their certificates..this list is clean and suggested by street machine so start ringing 8) ;)

ACCREDITED ENGINEERS
Before contemplating any modifications (or approaching an engineer), do some basic research about the legality of the modifications you're considering (eg: emissions, engine capacity, ground clearance, wheel sizes, driveline, brakes and suspension systems) beforehand. And be aware that not all certified engineers are willing to look at all types of modifications. Some just do box trailers, stretch limos or twin steer garbage trucks. To make things easy we've complied this list of appropriately qualified engineers and/or companies that have expressed interest in consulting on typical street machine projects.

Regardless of your research, find an engineer that agrees in principle with your planned modifications before proceeding. Not everyone's interpretation of the guidelines is the same. As such, some engineers are more comfortable and more experienced at certain types of modifications, thus making them more willing to provide certification. One of the biggest problems consulting engineers face is people presenting fully completed cars for certification that have no chance of registration. Radical, highly modified cars are not out of the question, they do, however, need to follow fairly strict guidelines.

Many commercially-available upgrade packages (e.g. some camshaft/exhaust kits, big brake upgrades and engine transplant kits) will be accepted by engineers as continuing to comply with the relevant ADRs without the need for additional testing. However, engineers will often request exhaust noise, emissions, handling and mechanical testing for certification. Obviously this type of testing will incur a higher consultation fee.

Always remember that engineers, like other qualified people who work on your car, expect payment for their time and experience. No engineer is willing to risk his livelihood just because you've spent thousands of dollars doing the wrong thing. Even though an engineer may assist you in gaining registration, it's your responsibility to ensure your car is safe and continues to meet the ADRs.

Although Street Machine has put its best effort into making this list as comprehensive as possible, it may not be conclusive. Other engineers may be consulted provided they are suitably experienced and qualified by the various state registration authorities. This list will become a permanent posting on our website (www.streetmachine.com.au) and will be updated monthly. If you are a certified engineer and wish to be included, forward a short note along with your details to streetmachine@acp.com.au Happy spannering!
