I've been reading about the Dutton rally comp on SAU, but i'm getting a little confused with the regulations.

This is a quote from a successful Duttoner (Snowman for those of you reading SAU):
"Dutton has no limits on car mods other than the car has to have some form of street registration".

I don't get it. I would assume that once you mod your car to a level which makes you competitive in these events, you'd have no chance of getting it road registered. What does he mean by "some form of street registration"?

Also, he mentions that their Dutton Machine isn't "targa spec". What sort of constraints are there on cars for targa rallies? Are they stricter, or is he just saying that his car is not set up to compete in targa?

Anyone entered these events and know what the difference is/can explain the regs a little?

I don't know anything about the regs, but i think the sil80 might need to enter in this event

edit: just checked and it looks like entry is $1000 per round. eep

Without bothering to go looking at regs it'll be road/rally rego i assume. You have to travel between stages in the same way that a dedicated rally car does so i assume that it's applicable.

the "tarmac rally specs" are the targa rules and regs, quite strict, car needs to be log booked, cams approved cage, certain cars etc etc etc...

dutton is for road registered cars, a series of driving events, not all high speed...technique etc is tested, i think u get supplied with tyres for the event and off u go, expensive tho, i looked at running it last year, but without sponsorship it is quite expensive excercise...

Yeah I would love to do the dutton at some stage, but not on my current income/level of "spirited driving" experience.

So when they say "street registered", they're not talking about what's required for street registration... it's another category of competition. Yes?

i think its implying that the cars are road registered with normal every day run of the mill registration...instead of highly modified, specifically for the event race cars...

but there is the option of CAMS registration which allows you to drive on the roads to/from and during events...

dutton is a very expensive excercise, the *road registerd* applies so you dont get wrc cars there etc, however mark berry's gtr aswell as snowman's are pretty close to full on race cars. mark's gtr just competed in the time attack in tskuba to give you an idea. you are also not supplied with any tyres fyi.... weirdest car ive seen compete was an old pulsar vector 4door thing completly std with just semi's on lol was a funny site to see the 20yr old suspension lift a wheel due to the semi's gripping...... hope this helps a lil.

Funny you should mention the Berry/Newman GTR because that's what got me thinking about the regs. I've been following their Tsukuba prep on the SAU forum, and yeah, that thing ain't a street car. Even before they started prepping for Tsukuba, it certainly wasn't.

Thanks for the info - it's worth a look, even if it will be ages before I have the money to think about it..
