i started this thread to stop (1jz into 180sx, Anyone got a how-to or some info? links?) being trashed 2 much..

this is an argument that has plagued forums for years..

out of interest i would like to hear the opinions of members from this site, being a nissan devoted website im presuming it will be RB biased.

I will start by saying that although both engines are awesome SR ftw....hahaha

fire away guys and girls

Are we talking RB25 or RB26?

I think they are all ok, but 2j is the king of 6 cylinder turbo motors

lets say rb26 vs 2J

although i have read that its probably better comparing 1J to RB26 as the RB25 is inferior to the 1J...Internal wise.

i prefer the 2J's note, clearer, but a well built RB26 sounds tough if that makes any sense

I don't care which one sounds best. I care that the 2J can make 10billion rwkw with bugger all mods, and massive torque from idle upwards

yep, factory bottom end, 2j every time. the only issue with them is the backwards orientation that puts the turbos on the wrong side for RHD cars

when you're talking stock against stock,the JZ series engines are easily superior. once you start replacing internals though,the difference becomes smaller.

if you're going for light-tuned engines,it's 2JZ all the way. more torque everywhere,stronger internals,less stress.

if it's full-tune,they're much of a muchness,it's all down to how far you want to go and how reliable it has to be. both can make over a thousand HP,once you open them up,it becomes more a case of how deep your pockets are and how far you want to go than which is better.

I drive an RB25DET powered car everyday and compared to 2JZGE powered cars of similar weight that I've driven on many occasions in the past,the RB25 is crap. I'd put a 3L bottom end under it if I could justify the cost. the torque just isn't there until it has half a bar of boost on board,and you can't be on boost all the time.
it's RB26 with serious work done,or a 2JZGTE. they're the only two options really.

unless of course you want to consider an XR6T engine? there's potential in those for some pretty big numbers,and they're a lot easier to come by than 2J's are atm.

you know it all comes down to what you use the engine for?

drag/drft/race

i dont know if you guys have seen a video of 2 HKS modified cars doing a test, if i can ever dig this video up again then this could end this discussion.

both cars had the same modification

r33 GTR vs Supra RZ Both HKS modified
suspension/engine you name it

both same power i think from top of my head its was something like 570ps, they where testing which car would out perform the other.

Drag race results
==> From 0-600m R33 GTR
===>From 600-1km Supra

Drift results
===> GTR performed better

Racing
=========> GTR performed all round better
=====>Supra showed some understeering

these results could change, if these engines where put into a different car.

hopefully i can dig up this video it would be helpfull

All of those reqults have really nothing to do with the motor, they are all to do with the chassis/suspension/drivetrain.

Anybody know the weight difference between RB26 and 2J?
