Good to see my thread spawned this one :)

I'll throw my vote in = 2JZ

I'm a devout nissan/datsun supporter, but I'm open minded enough to realise that although the might RB30 single cam motor is a great achievement in nissan straight 6 technology, the 2JZ is a better / newer motor in alot of areas.

 It's fine as long as you don't limp-wrist the mouse.

In the words of Tommy Lee Jones "Lose that nickel-plated sissy pistol and get yourself a Glock".

Seriously though, when I get a second (or third) job I'll look at getting myself an STI and a .22 conversion kit. Then all I need is talent and I'll be shooting 3cm groups at 50m. :)

buy an alloy kimber .22,don't convert an STI. same govt. model-sized frame, same controls, just half the weight and no recoil.

get a reloading press as well. then you won't care about using hundreds of .38 super rounds...they'll cost about 10% of what factories do.

Amen to that! Plus all the other wonderful benefits that come from hand loading!

You obviously have a lot of patience fergo; loading hundreds of rounds yourself would take me a friggin month

Hah yeah that's the tricky part, the talent thing. Good luck man, if you can shoot even close to that I will take my hat off to you. So I get the impression that these STI's are a well made piece of gear then?

...But then I have to do an extra 4 competitions a year to justify having a rimfire gun. If I convert a centrefire gun, the conversion is just considered a spare barrel and I can sit on the couch for those four days if I want to :)

Disclaimer: 'Talent' may consist of me buying a ransom rest

four extra days, pfft. how many times a year do you go to the range? why don't you just score a practice shoot like everyone else does?

granted you won't be on top of the club's table, but you will have made your compulsory shoot numbers up if you go say, once a month, by the middle of the year at the latest, and it's do whatever the hell you want after that.

I shoot weekly (and sometimes twice weekly depending on my mood),so it's no drama for me. every other week I score a shoot.

as for the spare barrel bit,you still have to fill out a permit to acquire for a barrel and wait the same amount of time as you do for a complete firearm,so you may as well buy a whole pistol to justify the wait time.
add to that the reduced wear and tear on your main gun...

I'll be buying a kimber next year.

You make some very good points, especially about the wait time and wear on a single gun. Being on the lower end of the club's table isn't too much of a concern since I'd probably be somewhere around there anyway :) (Especially if I have to borrow a club gun - the rear sight came loose on me tonight and fell off the slide!)

I was under the impression that the compulsory shoots had to be proper competitions and I figured they would most likely be on weekends. Since I work every weekend, any extra time off work means less money to spend on guns and ammo!

If it was up to me I'd be at the range every night it's open, but I haven't done six months on my PPL yet so they wont let me. Damned laws :P

Let me know how that Kimber shoots :)

it's pretty much only the IPSC stuff that's on weekends. my club runs an inter-club comp once a month on wednesday nights.

some clubs run comps on weekends, one club that uses the range I attend does their comps and practice for comps on sunday mornings.

everyone's different. you need to join the club that best suits your lifestyle.

Wednesday nights are perfect. 10 competitions a year suddenly looks easy!

I think I might need to get a different job that lets me have weekends off. I'd like to get a Glock 17A and get into IPSC production a bit later on. I hear they don't allow the 34 in the production division, and I'd have my arse handed to me if I tried to use one in standard.

It looks like a lot of fun though.
