You need to ask yourself whether you liked the package enough to spend the time/money to move it to another shell.

If you cant find a cheap 180 shell, i say sell and gather insurance money and move on.

i say gather money and all the salvageable parts and start again anyway. unless you need to get some closure, then find a shell.

The insurance company will probably try to write it off. Dont let them.

Your biggest problem is that you have 2k of radiator and intercooler thats got to be replaced, 2k of suspension thats likely stuffed (not including assorted aftermarket arms and subframe damage). If it gets written off you will not see any money to replace that stuff on a new car.

I dont see how I could stop them writting it off. Doesn't the repairer get to make that call? What are the pros and cons off writting it off?

Cons:
They pay what they consider 'market value', which equates to 50-80% of what the average replacement cost is
All your good bits don't get replaced

Pros:
Works out well if your car is an absolute nugget, or has heaps of mods on it that weren't damaged giving you the ability to buy back the wreck cheap and part it out

this is what i did, and ended up getting back more then what the car would have sold for on the market without damage and the mods.

just wait the inspection and evaluation, then you can decide what you can do.

when my s14a (bought for $17k) got written off in January this year, the options were either buy the wreck and get a payout below market value ($11k) or get the market value back ($15k) so we kept the wreck and sold it for $9k.

it had no after market parts on it so i didnt have to worry about that.

Mate the Laser got put out to pasture about 6 months ago. After 350,000 klms I said time to stop flogging this dead horse.

Got a phone call late yesterday afternoon from the hospital apperently I have a fracture in one of the vertabrae in my lower back. Just got to try take it easy.

Good thing I have a desk job.

I know I'm a little prick to you at the best of times, so I just rang the rta and you should be recieving your "elderly licence retest" letter soon. :P

In all seriousness, I hope it all works out and you don't lose too much from this. I was going to say at least you weren't hurt :-?

good luck old boy.

Thanks Splashy. If I had hit the other car square on the young female passanger may not have been that lucky. So even though I am a bit damaged and will be massively out of pocket, at least no one died, so we should count the blessing where we can.

Funny I always figured it would be my stupidity that wrecked the car not someone elses :-?
