Im asking for a friend of mine as he is thinking of buying a bagged 'mini truck' with a sr20det and a s14 gear box.
Im not sure what model the sr came out of or the model of ute, but would it be okay to tow a trailer with all his carpentry tools in it?

Should be alright provided its just a little box trailer and you don't have any real aspirations of going fast.
Course, if its got a huge f-off turbo on it which doesn't spool up until 5000rpm it could be interesting, but here's to hoping it doesnt

Yeah, Im no expert but if its heavy enough for it to be on boost too long, itll obviousally wear things out quicker than if not....How heavy is the trailer?

Well considering the amount of tools and things a builder has, it would weigh a fair bit.

It will need alot of lowend torque to get it going..

To be honest and boring, it's not the best choice for a tradie. Plaything, chuck a couple of surfboards, suitcase, beer, sleeping bag and good times, it's fine.
But he's going to be running it on premium fuel all the time which will add up, 5000k servicing (or it will die) which means time off the road sometimes and its not the ideal motor for this kind of work.
It'll do it alright, but there are cheaper, easier to live with alternatives in the meantime.

Mid-late 90's 6cylinder Holden or Ford utes are a better option for all the reasons a modified, SR20DET ute isn't, plus they drive fairly well for what they are compared to Jap utes. Tough as nails, lots of torque, fairly cheap to run considering what you can drag behind them and no ones really gunna want to steal the bastard.
Unlike pretty utes which people will probably want to bugger with on some level because a certain percentage of humans are inherently complete arseholes on most days ending in Y.

Yeah fair call MK. I spoke to him about some issues with it and he is planning to leave the trailer on site as much as possible.
'Your game' I said, 'considering it can get stolen and tens of thousands of tools go with it'.
To his reply; 'its insured, it dont care'.
I know, I know... :-?
