I've got 2 mates with cheap datto's for sale, but If you want something really cheap and near impossible to kill, R31's are awesome :D

I think it's a bit of a big leap to buy a project car. Start small doing your own servicing on the silvia, then do some bolt ons.

My r32 was my daily driver until about 2 years ago and that initially got all the basic bolt ons including turbo swap done on weekends so it was running again on monday. The rb25 swap was done during christmas holidays one year.

The other problem you will run into if you buy a shitter as a project car is that it will never be as good all round as a stock silvia, no matter how much work you put into it. Another thing worth considering is that a good condition silvia just doesn't break down, you don't have the mechanical and electrical gremlins that plague old cars. And to be honest, modifying is fun, you get a tangible result. repairing and maintenance isn't, car is ok(ish), it breaks, you fix it, car is ok(ish) again.

what about a s12 Gaz? should be able to pick one up pretty cheap, and somewhat similar to the silvia line, so things you learn to do on it should be pretty transferable when you start playing with the Silvia.

im still learning new things all the time, but i get alot of info from helping friends with their cars & asking questions, so in some ways you get a demo of what to do before you have to do it yourself, lol.
