disapointing price so far.
$187,000 is no where near what would be expected.

Only 3 days left too. I wonder if there will be a sudden rush of bids right on the last day.

Nah, pretty sure it wasn't me. But I do get the feeling that someone did tell me that about some car.

Before I bought the Tree I went looking at the RX-8, DC5R, S15, MY03 WRX, Clio Sport and Astra SRi Turbo.

If some fucker had told me that when I went in, I would have just told him that its no surprise that it got beat on dynamics by the 350Z when Motor tested them if Holden's building it for show rather than go.

Although Mazda and Honda told me they didn't have RX-8's / Type-R's available for test drive when I asked them. The Renault was the best test drive - I got to run it up the Old Pac by myself. Almost bought the thing. If it was RWD I would have.

No test drives untill a firm deposit is put down.

Yeah, I was going to post that I think it was Mazda regarding the RX-8 but I couldn't remember for sure.

I know it wasn't Honda. I asked for a test drive of a DC5R and they just said they didn't have any demonstrators, and hung up.

Its not fair enough. There was a 3 month wait on the 350Z when I bought mine (just as long as Mazda had on the RX-8 at the time), yet Nissan still let me test drive one.

And in hindsight I'm glad I didn't get the RX-8. Chews oil, goes through fuel, still not as quick, and no torque down low. Maybe if I had test driven it I would have known at the time that I didn't want it.

Same with the Astra SRi Turbo, which had won Bang For Your Bucks and so was getting good coverage in the media. The RenaultSport Clio I got to test drive up the Old Pac was also doing well in BFYB too. I also got a test drive of a WRX, and how many test pilots do you reckon Subaru gets for them?

I could have wrangled a test drive of the Monaro CV8-Z when that came out too (when I asked about that purple colour for Risking a few months ago). The guy even asked me if I wanted to take one for a spin, and I turned it down.

Did you know somebody at the Holden dealer that let you take the Astra up the Old Pac?

Renault dealer. I only went around the block in the Astra (it was on the fuel light).

I didn't know them. I just rocked up, asked for a test drive.

They asked me if I knew the area (Waitara) and I said kind of, but not really. They recommended I drop the car onto the F3, head up north, and take the Pacific Highway back.

I asked how far north I can go (trying to keep my voice calm) and they said, "as far as you want".

I then got in the car, and asked if they were getting in with me. The salesman said, "nah. Just go out by yourself" :O

I drove it up to Brooklyn, and did the 2 lane hillclimb back south. Fuck its a quick car. The engine's got so much pickup, and there's no inertia so you can throw the car around.

I reckon on the single lane sections (so north from Brooklyn all the way to Somersby), I'd be faster in the Clio than I would be in the Z.

Astra from the Holden dealer!

That's still an awefully trusting salesman. You must look very trustworthy. :P

Obviously the Clio is lighter than the Z; giving it it's "chuckability" but i'm wondering by how much?

(no, i cbf googling)

I think we're missing each other here.

I didn't get a chance to run the Astra on the Old Pac. I only got to take it around the block, where I did give it a bootful at one point. With the OEM turbo setup, the engine just felt smooth not very turbo-ey at all. There wasn't much sensation of speed.

The Clio is about 400kg lighter than the Z, which obviously makes a lot of difference. Its also FWD, which means I'm less worried about big oversteer (not that I didn't get the Clio sideways; the French make such fun hot hatches).

But yeah, I was so surprised when he let me drive it on the Old Pac by myself.

Anyone that gives you a test drive of any car has rocks in his head let alone telling you to take it for an old pac run. :P
