I was snooping around on the zed forums (Don't hate me! At least it's a nissan!) and they've got something going there which I thought was pretty cool. When people post a message, along with the number of posts (like we have the whole T28, T04, etc thing), they also have a "stage" listing for their car.

To clarify here's an example; Mr D. Rift joins up with the silvia club/forums, and when he joins he gives a list of mods done to his car (just like it is currently). Each mod counts for 1 stage. So Mr D. Rift has an exhaust and aftermarket suspension on his Sileighty, so that counts for 2 stages. So whenever he posts, he also has a little "Stage 2 Sileighty" after his name, along with his avatar and his number of posts and his little T28 or whatever he happens to be.

I thought it was cool, because you can easily see at a glance how modded someone's car is. That way if you see a post from a guy who is like "Stage 14", you can be pretty sure he know's what he's talking about - plus you can also look up his car and check out all his mods. I dunno about you guys, but I love looking at all the stuff people have done to their cars - it's just hard on these forums because you can't tell at a glace if someone has a fully insane beast or just a stocker.

It would mean that someone would have to go to all the current members and assign a stage to them, plus whenever a new member joins the admins would have to assign them a stage too, but if you guys (sneezy...mayhem...?) don't mind the hassle, I reckon it would be worth it!

Any thoughts or opinions?

well the admins are the ones that assign a stage to people, so obviously they wouldn't count that as a mod - it would be up to their discression what stage you were up to.

All people have to do is put in their details in user profile info. Then just click on the user name and it will come up with the details.

I always go to there to check out a person's car/mods but no one else fills it in :(

that is a band aid solution for now anyway

j > good idea dude.

at least at a glance yuu know whos got the goods rather than browsing through each mem.

At this point though we all have an idea on whos got the beasty SRs. just by lookin at the DYNO challenges...

though a staging of some sort would be good :D

the other way I was thinking it could be done, as kind of an educational thing too.

What I mean is, the stages could be rigged up so as to give people an idea of what they should do next to their silvia.

For example, where could have a big list that says like

Stage 1) Pod filter + boost guage
Stage 2) Exhaust
Stage 3) Front mounted Intercooler
Stage 4) ECU upgrade
and so on...

So people could just rate themselves - look on the list, and then put down what stage they are. I know people could "cheat" and just say they're stage 6 or whatever, but those sort of people are probably doing the same thing already and telling everyone they have all these upgrades they don't, so it's not really any different - it just means people can identify straight away what mods someone has done, and at a glance just from looking at their mini-details attached to a post.

The advantage of this is if someone is looking to mod their silvia/180/whatever, they can look up the stages, and see what is recommended as the next mod to do.

I reckon all that is needed is a dyno figure and/or quartermile time.

No bullshit, just the raw figures.

The problem there is not everyone has dyno figures or quarter mile times for their cars, however everyone DOES know what's done to their car (or at least they damn well should!) :-D
