in the 50's, ford was testing out a car driven by a fucking GAS TURBINE.

- they were not just testing them for road use. A major ( at the time) sports car racing team developed a gas turbine car for le mans.
also lotus developed a gas turbine variant of one of it's mid to late 70's F1 that's right formula one cars but with a novel twist. it was also fitted with a four wheel drive system. the australian driver (sorry can't remember his name) stated that the car was very stable in corners but gutless.

but some can see where its heading and some cant.
that's right the major car makers have seen the future. the only car makers that don't have a major performance vehicle powered by a v8 are the japanese. these are also the regional group of car makers that are in finacial trouble.

-as for altering engine capacity at the press of a button then i'm afraid you can't beat the system that was devised by aston martin in the mid 90's. it allowed for the v12 engine to be reduced two cylinders at a time until it reached a v6.

QIK180: I didnt say you CANT rev it to within an inch of it's life, but rather just that you don't HAVE TO every time you change gears.

now who said it was calming down in here?

first, Lexus and Nissan both make V8's. there could be more, thats just off the top of my head.

and I for one dont give a damn what car manufacturers think as far as conventional engines go. their decisions are influenced by what jo blo wants to drop the kids off in, so who cares if jo blo wants a V8. jo blo dont know jack.

lets face it, you ask jo over there how a turbo works and see what he says.

well, what did he say?
oooohhh, he said he hasnt got a clue in hell.
I see.
so with billions of car buyers all over the planet not knowing how a turbo works, and humans being afraid of the unknown......
no shit car manufacturers are going to make loads of simple engines that dont need to be taken care of nearly as much.
so hopefully its just a matter of time before ignorance is stamped out about the mighty turbs, and jo wants to boost the hell out of there while the kids are only half out!

i said performance vehicle.
the japanese v8's whilst being very easy to develop in terms of power are fitted to 4wd's and luxo barges. whilst they are well suited to these duties i don't like the idea of quarter miling a lexus lx470.

Aren't Nissan wanting to put a big block V8 in the new GTR to appeal to the US market.
That's a f***in insualt i rekon.
F**k the yanks, if they want a V8 then go elsewhere. Leave the GTR the way it is supposed to be a V8 eater in every way.

Thats IF the GTR stays, along with every other rumour of Nissans great cars being given the chop. WTF is with them sales on the S series are great and please dont kill the greatest production car under $150k.

big block v8? I somehow doubt that Nissan will be putting a 400+ci engine into the skyline, but we can always hope
