Hi,

I read that if you get 12 Points you get your licence suspended for 3 months for somebody with a full licence (not Ps).

If you have EXACTLY 12 points do you loose your licence for 3 months or is it if you get OVER 12? Anybody know?

Thanks!
Payam

P.S This is for a friend, not me.

when you get booked the demerit points add up. when demerit pionts add to the max allowable on the type of license it is the suspended accordingly - so i found

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregulations/penalties/demeritpoints/index.html

Suspension periods

Reaching or exceeding the demerit points limit results in licence suspension. The RTA will send a Notice of Suspension to licence holders who reach or accumulate more than the number of points detailed in the preceding section.

The period of suspension that applies depends on the number of points accumulated and/or the type of licence held.

For unrestricted gold, silver or magenta licence holders, the suspension periods are:

12 to 15 points: 3 months.
16 to 19 points: 4 months.
20 or more points: 5 months.

For Provisional licence holders, the automatic suspension period is three months.

Nah, you wont get a clean slate.

It's 3 years (i think) to get points back after you pay the fine. They'll probably give you 1 or 2 points so you can drive around but basically if you fuck up you get your licence suspended again straight away.

Theres no way in the world that they'll give someone 12 points back immediately just after you've lost them.

Is this under the new sort of system, or has it always been like this. When i was faced with either a 3month suspension, or one year probation, i opted for the 3months. and according to rta data, i have all my points back again. this was not recent however, a year or two ago

I think it's three years, might be one or two, but i may be wrong. I remember driving around with 3 points left on my licence for atleast 1 year after getting done for speeding 3 times in quick succession. But that was back in the mid 90s so i'm a little vague.

I think your confusing loosing points and loosing you license Dave.
Yes if you loose some points they get given back three years to the day of the fine being paid.
If you loose you license then you can either take 3 months disqualified then you get you license back with 12 points or you can have a probationary one for 12 months with only 2 or 3 points, if you get done with this one then its 3 years disqualification.

And you dont loose points you earn the demerit points, you start with 0 and once you earn 12 it GAME OVER MAN!!
