Ok i'm on my Red P's. On Double Demerit Weekend, i got booked for speeding. The light went yellow, i sped up, cops turned the corner and booked me. I was puzzled because i thought i had lost my license, also paranoid due to what i thought my mum would say.

The Officer said to me, I HAVE TWO POINTS LEFT. By that meaning, he let me off with a 2 point reduction and a 127 dollar fine. I payed the offence, i checked the RTA with my points and it said i had 2 demerit points, which is correct. I received a letter from the RTA today. I have lost my license... Arghhh the RTA and Police is screwing me around here! The police officer let me off! The RTA said i had 2 points left! Why on Earth did i lose my licence??

I rang the RTA, it seems i've lost my licence for 3 months...I haven't lost any points in the past 3 years, as i am on my Provisional Licence. This sucks...My dad was about to buy me a car as well after the HSC... GRRR! Damn Police, can't get their rules straight! The RTA said the Police do not have the authority to make changes like that...

From what you said, I think you might have grounds to contest the issue.. but dont trust me on that.

I don't think i can contest the issue, i spoke to the RTA and they said they can only reduce the sentence of a 3 month suspension to a lesser one. I'm not gonna drive for 3 months, but i can't tell my parents that i've lost my licence...they'd kill me.

Do you think this has majorly affected my chances of getting car insurance??

Uhh HELL YES.

Sorry to say it but when they ask your driving history for insurance you have to tell them, cause when u have a acco or some smashes into you or your car is stolen one of the first things done is they check your records with rta to see if they can deny the claim. There in the business for making money not paying it out.

look dude its a simple as this. if you havent lost all your points, but theyre taking your license than you have a very valid claim. dont sit around and act passive, get out there and start making a fuss. talk to someone senior in the RTA and get them to tell you the offences you have been involved in. If they cant reissue your license ask them who can. this mark will stay on your record for years, good luck getting insurance on a silvia if youve lost it previously. dont take this sitting down, and dont be afraid to get your parents involved, thats rediculous.

I don't have a valid claim because i've lost all my points...and i'm on my P's. If i do find insurance, will the premium be super high?

so, what youre saying is, you have lost all your points legitamatly?

yes, places like just cars will insure you but it wont be worth your effort especially seeing as your on your p's. id say figures of $6000 will be what youre looking at. will you have to get your L's again or do you start on p's when the suspension is over?

pending on the type of offence, you may automatically receive a 3month suspension regardless of how many points you have.

But to me, it doenst sound like your offence was that large, hope things go well for you.

13km/h over the limit...sheesh! I know it's my fault...but hey...the Officer said i still had my licence...bah! That's why i'm shitty... I asked the Officer in his car as well, so if i can find the officer, do they have rolling tapes in police cars just in case i go to court? so i have proof...

dun really beleive too much of what officers say. i was told to drag on my home street addy. Some say stuff they dun reali know about some say stuff that they dun want u to know about: Personal experience (i live in west) but go by what is on paper, and if it doesnt sound right chase it up, but remeber its the Cops word against yours unless you had a witness with you or the cop had the partner with him/her or a consented recording etc.. Do you have the name or badge #?

The Officer had a partner. He also showed me the radar gun reading. Can the RTA do this though? Overall the policeman's decision?
