Thats weird. When I was defected I had to make an appointment with the EPA they told me that they were booked out until a further 2 weeks and said they would extend my defect till then.

It must be the type of place you have to take it to, mine only had to be cleared by any person that can do a blue slip. If you had to go to the EPA maybe that's a different type of defect or something?
