OK, I was in Byron this past week (driving my mums car due to my poor fuel economy) and while it was parked... some dick smashed into me, and drove off.... so when I got back to my car, I got a nice little suprise having the rear wheel arch smashed in and rear door bent!

I then got to make the happiest phone call of my life to tell my mum that her car was smashed.... tell you what... never borrow your parents car!!!

Is there anything you can do with the insurance company to get a cheaper claim cos it wasn't your fault (I know you cant prove it) or do I just have to pay the excess???

just pay the excess. its bad to find out this stuff happens. it also happened to me last year :( got my door smashed in by a towbar in my work carpark. i hate motherf**kers like that.

work out if its cheaper to get it fixed with your own money than to make a claim. eg,. if it costs $1000 to get fixed, work out the excess (maybe $400) the loss of NCB (probably -20%) which could make up quite a few hundred dollars, plus the fact that you (or whoever claims) will have an at fault accient to their name. just keep all that in mind!

good luck with it anyway. and if you find the guy, im sure most people here will look the otherway while you 'speak' to him about it :)

nah, I'm back in Sydney now, I'm guessin they're still in Byron... f**kers

Well, luckily, cos its mums car, I'm just paying her the excess and she is taking the blame (after much pleading and begging!). That means I atleast wont have to foot the bill of the extra cost for insurance as well, so its ok. Still, dont know why scum do that sort of shit.

Just found out that the excess to get the car fixed is $450.... not bad considering they quoted the damage at $2400 if we didn't claim....... still, that $450 could have been better spent in alot of other ways!
