My good friend always tells me "you won't have that problem with a V8" and I get pissed off all the time.

what do you guys think about that???

Bloody petrol guzzlers they are, for the power they get out!!!!

this old chestnut again huh? every engine type has it's ideal application.
you wouldn't tow a trailer with a rotary powered car,and you don't go up uber windy roads with a V8 commodore wagon. you don't drag race with a type R integra and you don't go drifting in a lancer.

late model v8's are a lot more advanced and powerful and have far better economy for their capacity than you probably realise. the next model HSV's are reported to have displacement on demand which will help their economy figures and emission output levels enormously.

there is no ONE CAR that is the best at everything, and there never will be. what I've found to work for me is to take each car on it's merits and to not try and force something to be what it's not. eights have their place out there, just like rotaries and 4cyl turbos and so on do. buy and drive what works for your application, and accept that others may have needs that differ to yours.

not unless you can do under a 6 for an ET or are going for a bracket win.

I miss my 1UZ. I should buy another one and put an 8 throttle kit on it.

I know what you meant. I was just pointing out what you could have half a chance of doing well with that car.

i think ultimately, teh best of both worlds, a nice V8, with some T66 forced induction, can't go wrong really, probably in a cobra or something, for handling too

very refined 'supercar' sort of noise when you have a proper exhaust system on it.

Yeah this SS ute went past me as I was walking to the shops one day, sounded quiet and sedate but when it opened up to go up the hill it sounded like the gates of hell had opened, very nice

Yes, the commodore is the pinacle of motoring perfection.

I love the sound of an old V8 with a massive cam and straight through exhaust, struggling to idle.

I've only passengered in V8s that go hard, they pull pretty hard with the torque. I've only driven crappy V8s with slushboxes mainly, old corvettes and stuff. I went in a newish SS and i was quite surprised. I've heard good things about the new XR8 too. I'm talking straight line though.
