When you want to change lanes, try the following, because I have heard on the grape-vine it works really well:

A) Use the orange flashing light on the side of the bike to tell others where you plane to change to

B) Do a shoulder check to see if anyone is there before merging

C) Merge in a normal fashion (i.e, dont shoot into the next lane by leaning the bike almost on it's side).


Another thing to try is not leaning on someone elses car when asked not to.


today on the way to work, I was pretty much merged into by a stupid fucker on a motorbike.

Now I understand if he had moved his head, or even indicated, and then come acorss, but he just darts across, right into the side of the car, bounces off again, and all I hear is his girly shreak from my open window.

He didn't indicate, he didn't check his mirrors, and didn't do a shoulder check, if he even did just 1 of those things, I would have realised he wanted the lane, and been a little more cautious of him.

Now I get to the lights at the bottom of the hill, and he pulls up next to me, and leans on my door, and flicks his visor up.

At this point, I begin to appologise (not sure why, but I am a polite person), anyway, he beings calling me a fucking tool, and a dangerous driver.

At this point I polite ask him to remove his arm from inside my window, and he refuses, continuing telling me how this is why Bike riders are hurt and soforth.

I see the light go green, and again polite ask him to remove his arm from my window, adn when he says "make me", I place the car into first gear, and drive through the now green traffic lights, and watch him in the mirror fall to the ground.

Then I stop about 3 meters ahead, and polite say "I asked you to remove your arm twice, and I also indicated all of my intension in the last 30 minutes of driving, now who is the tool", and at this point continue on my way to work.

Now I understand bike riders are harder to see, and that they cop shit on the roads a lot, etc, but when your driving NEXT to an object, you seriously dont expect the object, bike, car or otherwise to suddenly slam into the side of you as you are maintaining your lane.

Bike riders, I do respect you, and I am quite cautious around you guys, as I am planning on getting my bike licnce and bike shortly and joining you all, but shit, use common sense on the road like everyone else, the 3 key things above will make life easier for everyone on the road when merging or changing lanes.

No going through intersections sideways, dragging commodore utes, doing warp speed on freeways etc, that'd be just plain stupid.

Was only 1 intersection, and I wasn't dragging the commodore, as my drive line isn't up to that sort of hammering on initial take-off.

And warp speed on the freeway, my speedo was reading 110km/h, but as of yesterday I found out my speedo is actually 18% out, so when I am reading 100km/h, it's actually doing close enough to 120km/h (damn Diff change).
