Whats with people making offers on cars with "cash"?

"Ill give you $14k cash"

Yeah no shit youll give me cash mate, does it look like I fucking well accept credit?

What makes people believe that offering "cash" will make us drop the price by $2,000? Do they think we are Harvey Norman or something?

The next person to ask me if they can get my car for less if they pay cash will get a rather short reply with something along the lines of "yeah cash+your girlfriend for a week" or "nah I only accept credit card, otherwise theres a 10% cash handling fee"

IT SHITS ME UP THE WALL

I had one bloke offer me $300 for my skyline the other week, (the interior alone is worth $500), and after I told him rather aggressively to get fucked, he then said "how about $300 without stereo etc?"

The 'stereo' consists of a cheap CD player on the stock speakers

I then replied saying he could have the car with no motor, wheels or interior for $300.. he wasnt keen on that idea

which ex-girlfriend? I might be interested in the trade+cash arrangement

Ive been getting sick of timewasters, so my responses to people normally involve the words "OFF" and "FUCK"; not necessarily in that order

because you can pay by cheque/bank cheque

cash is safer as there's no way the buyer can commit fraud (unless the money is fake)

hence, offering cash and therefore guaranteed payment makes the buyer think you'll sell it for less as it's one less worry for

but it's more force of habit than anything

i always buy stuff less for cash ... come in and see the good good good guys

in retail, the term "cash" covers basically everything bar credit or cheque.

Who in their right mind would hand over their car keys based on whats written on a cheque? If youre taking a cheque, you wait til the funds have cleared before handing over the keys.

A bank cheque is basically a guaranteed cash amount, as the bank takes the money from the buyers' account and holds it in limbo until you claim it.

When I was selling one of my cars a couple of months ago I'd have people making ridiculous offers 'cause they're "paying cash"

One guy offered 5k "cash" on a car I was selling for 8.5, I bluddy shot home as well from lunch to meet him and show him the car, and that's what he offers.

The "i'm paying cash" thing is only good when the guy/business can just do it on the side, no tax and whatever.

plenty of ppl pay for cars with bank cheques

if you wait till the funds have cleared then you basically have both the car and the cash, now who in their right mind would let you take that amount of cash without expecting a car in return

i know what bank chq is, i work at one, and i also know that bank cheques are now on 3 day holds instead of instant clearance due to the amount of fraud, hence why it's NOT a guaranteed cash amount

the worse is when you have to drive out to see them, your car worth, 15000, they bring there mates car, say he bought it for 12000, so that makes your car worth that much to them and offer you 12000,

ppl should just stop dreaming, if you cant afford it piss off,
