I read somewhere on NS.com of a member there being defected for bending his numberplate to fit in the factory location! Apparently its illegal to modify your numberplate in anyway, and that includes bending..... which means every S13/180 on the road is practically illegal, cos I've never known anyone to have their plate fit without modifying it

Stupid damn rules

RTA said its legal to bend the numberplate... as long as you dont bend it where the letters are, so an S13 is fine. Your also not allowed to cut it.

This was one of the major problems I had with the cop that pulled me over, his complaint was that the numberplate was so far recessed into the bumper (rear plate) that you couldn't even notice the first letter at 45 degree angle, so he told me I had to get it fixed. I told him that the RTA had no problems with it and that hundreds of S13's drove around like this without a problem.... this was when i worked out:

a) he was being a dick and trying to piss me off
b) he knew nothing about cars in general

Luckily every other cop that has pulled me over before this has been nice and discussed things with me and let it be, so I consider myself lucky.

How do you guys know that it's ok to bend the plates and not cut them ?
I'm not doubting you, just wanted to know what else is legal and what isn't...

Anyone one of where I can find out apart from calling the RTA ?? I mean, is there a list or pamphlet that you can take home ? Or is it something you have to learn by copping a fine first ??

Nonetheless, the issues with the dumbass cops are complete bullshit ! Reading it makes me *^&%en pissed.

I was pulled over by a copper for having those adhesive P plates on my windows (front and rear). Told me if I didn't replace them with original plates I wasn't able to go anywhere unless someone with their full license or plates comes along. Luckily I had only purchased the adhesive plates a few days ago, so the original were still in the car.

You can get the RTA to mail/fax parts of 'teh car bible' to you (this requires calling them). Anyone that does blueslips usually has the book, so get friendly with them and ask then to have a flick through it.

Just thought I would also mention that if you get defected, and the cop is a prick and decides you need a full (blueslip style) inspection, there is a way around it so you can just get it cleared by a pink slip station.

Step 1: Carefully fold defect slip in half, then half that again
Step 2: Burn it!
Step 3: Go to your local RTA and say you accidently lit it up the slip in a crazy frenzy. They will reprint it for you (no charge too!) and it wont specify where the defect needs to be cleared.
Step 4: Go to a local station (preferably not your usual mechanic) and get it cleared.
Step 5: Dont get caught again.

DeLuxe.

nope

its called entrapment. they cant do that even if they wanted to. if the MR2 was a mate, you could have whitnessed the whole thing saying the cop goaded the MR2 driver into it

i hope the MR2 driver gets off that fine.

cops suck. no respect for us.
