State of Sydney..this is not uncommon at all

What can you do about it, nothing

Quote:
A man has been carjacked and robbed at gunpoint after being involved in a minor collision with another vehicle in Sydney.

A NSW Police spokesman said a stolen Ford XR6 ran into a BMW sports car in Canterbury, in Sydney's inner-west, about 10.50pm (AEDT) yesterday.

The stolen car pulled into a side street and the 21-year-old driver of the BMW followed to inspect the damage to his vehicle after the "fender bender", the police spokesman said.

A man got out of the stolen Ford holding a small pistol and robbed the 21-year-old of his phone, wallet and car.

Two other men in the stolen Ford drove away in that vehicle.

ive heard about this sort of thing before; generally its a tiny lovetap on the rear bumper - this does no damage at all, but makes for a nice jolt forward. The driver thats been hit goes "shit ive been hit - hes rear ended me, there is bound to be damage, he is at fault"

Look in your rearview mirror - if theres a person in the car by themself youre probably ok, but if you see another person, theres the 2nd driver for your car... (unless theyre 2 hot blondes 8) )
If you dont get the best feeling, dont stop.. call the cops and say youve been hit and are a bit worried. Go to the nearest populated place. I believe legally you can just drive away. Minimal damage, nobody hurt, and youre not at fault.

It generally happens late at night when there is little/no traffic, so if someone hits you when youve stopped at 3-lane wide traffic lights, when there is nobody else around, chances are youre a target...

If you are hit from behind, really keep in mind that a lovetap does jack shit (unless youve got a fibreglass rear bar...). Id rather drive away if I felt uneasy with the situation and cop a possible $200 repair bill, than lose my car, wallet and phone (no phone = no ability to call for help), and possibly my life.

yeah but when someone hits you, those are not the thoughts that are going through your heads, its oh shit he hit me, his fault, better get his details so he can pay for it. and thats the way it should be, you shouldn't have to think am I about to get carjacked. lol

I heard of another one a while back. Go to your car and about to drive off, there is a white folded note under the wiper arm, you get out, leave the car running to see what it is, as your outta the car someone grabs you, throws you to the ground and drives off with the car.

i heard that as a rumour, but have never seen any cases of it happening.. The rumour also said it was under the rear wiper blade, so you noticed it when reversing out of your carspace, and had to walk all the way to the back of your car.

When ever I leave my car, I either lock it, or activate the kill switch.

My kill switch runs on a relay, so that it still enables the turbotimer to work, but once the timer dies, it kills all of the ignition, stuffing the theife's chances of getting away.

Things you can do to avoid any sort of car jacking....

- Keep windows at a level where you cant get an arm through (if needed, use A/C to keep temperature at a comfy level)
- If anything strange is seen, shut car down completely before investigating (such as paper on rear window, dont get out and leave car running while you remove it, shut down, and lock up, or ignore, drive off and then remove).
- NEver brag about huge midifications on your car, such as stickers, forums, etc (ignore the garage section in here).
- If someone pulls up beside you with somethjing pointing at you, the red light is only as red as you perceive it (if it's safe, dump it and go through).

Any finally, if someone threatens you for your car, get out and give it to them, your car is NOT worth your life...

B.

Someone tried to carjack me in Granville while I was at the lights on the corner of woodville and parra rd waiting to turn right, this fulli sick clapped out RX liberty pulls up next to me (on the left) and the passanger jumps out of the car and runs around behind me, the driver of the car yelled something at the other guy as he ran up beside me and then he tried to open the drivers door handle so I just dropped the clutch and went flying into the intersection. took off down parra rd weaving through a bit of traffic until I felt better and slowed back down again. My heart didnt stop pounding for a week.
Ever since then I carry a mag light in the door pocket and nearly always drive with the doors locked.

im paranoid about that happening, i ALWAYS drive with the doors locked.

but you're right Brian, if someone is holding a gun, you say yes sir and hand them the keys

i really should delete my car from the garage, its risky having that there. then again my plates arent my nick, and there are no pics :)
