I might have to do the same... I checked the price tonight at the BP corner of James Ruse Drv and Hassall St - $1.479/L for PULP... needless to say I cackled madly, muttered expletives and drove on...

Hopefully the tuesday morning price slump will take effect as usual, my tank is mostly full of fumes :/

has anyone been eyeing tankers and thinking evil thoughts lately? I know I have been. my only problem is I don't have a garage big enough to park one in.

and I seem to recall hearing that drive-offs at servos have gone up exponentionally of late, but that isn't really a surprise is it?

it's going to be like mad max soon at this rate. people will be holding up servos for fuel instead of the cash in the till, and tankers will get knocked off by organised groups... not a pretty picture.

people have laughed at me when I have said that performance cars have a lifespan of about 10-15 years to go. still laughing guys? how often will you drive your turbo car or V8 when fuel is up at $3/L?

Justin...

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean Fergo. $100/tank every week is going to make my car almost worthless to me.

I was talking about this with the blokes at work today - pretty soon you're going to see a lot more bikes, road lice and hybrid cars on the road, because everything else will be prohibitively expensive to run. I wonder what the price of a Prius will be in 2 or 3 years.

As for people hijacking fuel trucks, yes, its only a matter of time. At even 1.50/L an 8000L tanker-load is still only worth ~$12K, but $3/L = $24K, and $5/L = $40K. Add the value of the tanker onto that and they'll be looking like very appealing targets. Tankers will need armed guards, which will force the price up even more.

The local RTA's are booked out for 3 months for Learners bike permits :o

As for the tanker idea. Its been done mate.

A local shell got drained by a shell tanker the other night. However ALL shell tankers were accounted for during the hours it happened. I can't remember where I read about it though, very weird.

Fuel going on the black market in cabramatta very soon :-?

I'll walk before I ride a vespa. and soon I'm going to punt a vespa rider into the next suburb. guys on real bikes who do stupid crap in traffic I can almost tolerate, but a wanker on a 50cc girl's scooter cutting in front at the lights and weaving between cars? he's going to cop a power bar across the head...

Was 139.9 around all of the eastern suburbs tonight.

Thats just for ULP! :(

Is it just me being a worry wart, or could there be somewhat of another great depression caused by exponentially rising oil prices?
I mean as more Indian/Chinese people start buying cars, demand for oil is going to skyrocket. (2bn+ people!)

It would seem it's the perfect time to have let the 180 go...

So glad I just bought my sil... lol... thought a little over a $1, not to bad... now normal BP unleaded was 1.449 this morning, didn't even stop to check out what the ultimate was worth.

Was listening to the radio and there was a good point though, even with the raise in petrol, and with almost all other sectors of business suffering (apparently australia made cars (holden and ford) are taking large loses in sales, while companies selling euro small cars are finding an increase - also people are spending less on items like food, etc because they have to pay for petrol raises), we still have all our taxes on petrol.

Shell on South Dowling Street opposite the Supa Centa (love the spelling) had regular unleaded for 144.9cpl. I did a drive through to see premium price and it was 152.9.

All I could say was "Giiiiiiiit farked".

It was bad enough that I just got over $99 in my last tank at $130-something for premium...

Small bikes and scooters are economical, but once u upgrade to a bigger bike, the km\L is not too far off a modern 1.8L car.

Eg: Learner bikes and 250cc will get rouhgly 18-20kms\L

A mid size, 600cc IL4 bike will get 14-15km\L

My old TRX850 [twin] was getting 12.5km\L, which is roughly the same as a new 1.8-2.0L engine car.

Well, u do tend to ride bikes harder..... Engines are pretty worn by the 50,000km mark and considered "high mileage".

I walk and cycle for most of the week, then use the 180 on the weekend trips and groceries duties.

Steve
