From The Sunday Mail

Quote:
A Queensland woman caught drag racing along a busy suburban road at 144km/h in a 60 zone with three young children in the back seat says getting caught is her only regret.

Rachael Weymouth appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court this week after being clocked doing 84km/h over the speed limit with children aged one, five and seven in the hotted-up car.

Two of the children were hers, the other her sister's.

Weymouth, 27, from Margate in Redcliffe, was racing a friend, Michael Torrisi, 25, who had his fiance and 18-month-old child in his car, along Redcliffe's busy Anzac Ave [at 4:20pm] when caught by police on a Sunday afternoon in December.

"The only thing I'm sorry about is losing my licence," Weymouth told the Sunday Mail outside court.

"Now we'll have to walk everywhere, but I'm not sorry because those kids were never in any danger."

She lost her license, and that's it. Its pretty fucked up considering what she was doing. Its fucking bullshit that she only copped a $800 fine and a 6 month loss of license.

I can guarantee if 2 young drivers (P plater or not) were caught drag racing grey imports down a residential street at 4:30 in the afternoon they'd be doing jail time, and the kids in the car would be charged with inciting the drivers to street race for good measure.

They should have had their cars impounded for street racing.

im suprised these rednecks could actually afford their own cars

Note: I'm not calling Queenlanders rednecks, just people stupid enough to drag race with your kids in the car, utterly moronic.

that's unbelievable!
she shows absolutely no remorse and also claims the kids were safe? what the fuck??? :o
she needed to have her car impounded for good, stripped from her kids and thrown in the slammer for a llittle while as a wake up call for her.

that makes me sick!!!

I think the point is she is someone who should be pretty much fully matured - a grown woman with 2 kids, as opposed to your teenage P plater whom would be the usual suspect for such behaviour.

I can believe that someone could be this stupid, but it saddens me. What kind of a person could believe that their children were in no danger in that situation, let alone fail to consider the safety of the children who just might have been crossing the road at the wrong time...

The punishment she has received enrages me personally. It demonstrates the failure of the legal system to recognise the level of (or lack thereof) common sense of an individual. And I don't think it's any different in Queensland to what it is here.

Scathing, do you think jailtime for said offense at said time in said place is that harsh a penalty? I guess jail might be going a bit too far and re-reading I can see you clearly agree this woman got off far too light. My personal opinion is that she should have her kids taken off her, before she fucking kills them.

Do I think jail time is too harsh?

She's doing 145km/hr down a residential street at 4:30PM on a Friday afternoon. That's the time of time that kids are getting home from school at or, if its holiday time, out playing.

If someone did did the same thing down a main road (multi laned with divider and 80km/hr speed limit) at that hour I'd be calling them a fuckwit and deserve locking up. To do it past people's houses...? Get fucked.

While I'm all for people carrying that pace on an freeway (I think the various motorways and freeways through and out of Sydney would cope adequately with a 140km/hr speed limit) I'd never advocate that kind of pace where you potentially have people stepping out on the street. Even moreso when its in a residential area and, with cars parked on the side of the road, someone can step out unexpectedly from between or inside a car.

The most disturbing part imo is that they have no remorse!! I mean.. to let our ego/rage gets the better of us is something that probably all happened to us at some point in time.. but to reflect on it later.. and still think that they have done nothing wrong is disturbing! It means they will most likely do it again!!

Exactly.

If an under 25 male said that they had no remorse at doing a stupidly fast pace down a residential street (we'll leave the passengers out of it, and the fact that they were running 2 abreast down this street drag racing) there'd be calls for some serious behavioural modifications among the youngfolk of today.

if 2 young blokes were side by side even at a standstill they would be done for "street racing"
