Other myths which need to be dispelled are those about cameras not supposed ot be used on downhill runs. The cameras in the Eastern Distributor are all on the downhill runs, in both tunnels.

Actually, the southbound ED camera is uphill, just as the lane from the cross/whereever starts to narrow, and about 2 car lengths before the LHS lane markers go solid. i have a photo of my car from this camera somewhere, from a few years back.

The northbound camera is after the downhill section, and is midway along the flat area.

In terms of mobile cameras, Radars etc... I read a snippet of the mobile operators handbook a while back... the one passage that stuck with me was the one concerning 'bottom of the hill' speed detection. Specifically the bit that mentions a vehicle starting at the speed limit in top gear at the top of a hill cannot be booked at whatever speed is reached with no downhill application of throttle or brakes at the bottom of the hill.

obviously not the exact wording... And i'm sure there would be some sort of exceptions to this rule, where a hill is a certain length etc. <shrug>. could get a fair bit of speed down into, say, wollongong area...

In terms of the front on cameras, someone did get some sort of privacy ruling on the photo, as it was taken without his consent etc etc. which set a useful precedent.

this was overturned last year some time.

Theres a down hill camera on the Hume Highway, just after chester hill/bankstown area.

And there is NO dispute if that is down hill or not as the slope has some decent gradient :-?

i think they put fixed speed cameras on downhill areas as they are in accident blackspots and WANT people to slow down the hill.....

Guys ive tried this around the chester/hill area camera and also the cabbrmatta camera (just b4 the mobil). Did 120km/h going head on into the cameras just to prove a point and win a bet to my mate. This was with no plates on BTW at 3am.

haha  ^

My belief is that they only take pics in one direction or if the road is sign posted in two directions with the appropriate signs then it takes photo's in both directions.

Is that easy enough? :P

fuck man! no good! (figure of speech like. dont take offence) :D

i think even with the appropriate signs, they dont get u face on due to that privacy shit (in this case its good shit).

anyone know???? c'mon fellow speeders!!

It's pretty simple, jsut look for the cuts in the road for the sensors.

and yes there are ways to stuff speed cameras up. there is a whole forum devoted to this task :)

with the addition of cameras looking at the speed cameras. most people have been deterred.

i remember the one on Blaxland Rd in Ryde being fired twice in 2 weeks hahah

very funny!

ive been speeding head on at those particular camera locations for over 12months now.

If they get u from head on, ive got about a billions dollars in fines lost in the mail.

This is very true in the case of Spit Rd at Mosman going down towards Spit Bridge. A camera was placed there bec. it was an accident prone spot, inlcuding a friend who rolled his car down the hill. Just that stretch of road, there are three cameras, two going up the hill and one down. All within 400 meters.
