I'm sure there's a logical reason behind this...

our fuel is expensive compared to some places in the world as we have an excise on it that is supposed to be spent on the roads, for their upkeep, and building.

malaysia may have cheaper fuel, but is everything else equal as well?

there's no point having cheap fuel if you can't afford to buy a car, have to pay a heap to register it,pay the price of a night out to go on the freeway, and can't park it anywhere.

japan pays a lot more than us for fuel, even though it's a little better, but they pay ridiculous rego fees, getting a license is a LOT more difficult and expensive, and their toll roads are not cheap either. they get the money back in the price of the cars themselves and the parts for them.

we have cheap cars, cheap toll roads, cheap rego, easy licensing, and expensive fuel. it balances out generally speaking.

and also, don't be putting this on Howard. the price of fuel has been this way for a LONG time,he didn't start it... they're all the same, politicians, none is any better than the guy in opposition.

Justin...

In Malayasia as I understand it the costs to ge a car on the road are very expensive. In addition to the car purchase price I believe there is a rather large fee on top for something or other.

As a result I think traffic moves fairly well in dense areas thanks to the relative low volume of cars on the road.

Pity it doen't happen this way tho.

I think this would be a good thing here in Australia. Harder licence test = less ppl on the road = less money needed for upkeep = cheaper fuel (Well maybe anyway :-? ).

But yeah, in the end it does sorta even itself out.

Actually over there their rego is dirt cheap, as well as insurance. It doesnt matter if u have a turbo its based on how many cylinders you got.

The price of buying cars there is a little more expensive than here but thats because they make protons over there and the govnment taxes ppl when they buy imports. But the price you pay isnt that much more.

maybe if they stopped spending it on dumb stuff. like take chatswood, has the council made traffic flow in chatswood any better??? NO.

Our roads are crap, i mean we got so many pot holes its not funny.

50% of what we pay for petrol is tax, might be a little better if we got decent fuel rather than 96 ron for unleaded and 98 for optimax [/u]

ya thats true, i dont mind paying extra if that was the case. think about all the speed fines and defect fines they put out where does that money go???

when was the last time you got free parking on the street, i know in chatswood and areas around are pretty hard to find unless residential and that doesnt count. Most places that offer 3 hour free parking are privately owned, either by westfield or something similar.

How expensive is the m2 motorway toll, its just been going up and up. and how bout the eastern distributor they said they wouldnt put a toll on that when they were building it... bah that was a joke.

i love australia dont get me wrong, its just that they hit us hard with petrol prices and they blame it all on crude oil prices and other things when really they could subside a little on the excise. And the cops can actually solve proper crimes than going around defecting ppl for pods... i mean everyone knows they have a quota of fines they have to give out... if thats not revenue i dont know what is

whose interested in a groupbuy of petrol from malaysia hahaha

Economies are too different to compare, too many variables, too many policies, its just something the public has to accept !

Look on the bright side, ever filled up a tank of petrol in the UK ?

ya but theyre road system is also too crowded
and they make a 3 times more money than us so it works out ok

they have no reason to tax us this much. i mean if it was used for good things then maybe it might be ok. but they normally end up going to build freeways and we end up paying tolls on it.

dont mind me maybe im alone here but when the prices of petrol goes up ... i dont think ill be alone then :)

My mate from QLD's tells me he was paying about 20-30cents less per litre for his fuel.

NSW is gay for petrol.
