This is a newbie question. I have a stock 92 S13 Qs. Will an upgraded exhaust system make much difference to the performance of the car? if so how much? I got a quote for a 2 1/2 of the cat.

Cheers

You will probably find you have a little more top end. Depends if you have free flowing mufflers or not. Extractors would help.

There will be a difference, though not as much as putting a bigger exhaust on a turbo car.

might want to go for a pod filter or at least a panel filter for the airbox as well as the exhaust

If you are going to do exuast you would be better off getting extractors done first, if you only have enough to get half an exuast. cat back does nothing much but make noise unless you get the 1st half done first.

A stock 1.8? Unless you are planning to do significant mods to the motor, or the motor lives in the upper rpm band (ie near the redline), you don't want to get too large an exaust, as it will hurt your bottom end/midrange torque, alhough your top end will be noticibly better. I'd say anything larger than a 2.25" exhaust would be overkill unless you have HEAPS of engine mods.
