Evening Gents and Ladies,

I've installed an LS spec FMIC kit into my S14 only to find I have what I suspect is a boost leak.

I say suspect because some of the symptoms simply don't make sense to me. Hence this post:

- The car idles smoothly and when driving around in vacuum, i.e. not boosting, drives as per normal with NO unusual noises nor running
- The car still pulls REALLY well and isn't losing boost
- In addition, the SR shows normal vacuum reading

HOWEVER:
- The car has a high pitched sound (whistle?) above 4psi boost
- The car free boosts and will easily spike to 20psi if I don't back off under load, mean while running off the OEM actuator, T28 and stock manifold.

Any ideas as to what I should be looking for/at?

Cheers,
Grant

hahas, above 4psi you get a hi pitch whistle ( almost sounding like the car is supercharged? ) sounds like you got a busted cooler hose some were, if you had a loose clamp it would blow at the loose clamp...

does the car blow any black smoke??? cracked cooler or plumbing usually makes you blow a little black smoke, if you cant see anything and you can get ur hands on a compressor you can build your own compression tester for a few bucks ( makes it easy to find a leak ) pretty sure there is a tutorial on how to make one on MCM forums

good luck

Kurtis

check how the actuator is plumbed up. The stock system shouldn't get above 8psi or so at best with the solenoid connected.
20psi suggests you have no line going to the wastegate,or it's been incorrectly plumbed.

First guess is that the actuator hose has popped off, giving you the whistle and no control over boost.

usually the boost control hose connects to the intercooler piping, but most aftermarket setups don't have a place for it to go.

Cheers for the heads up gents, I knew you knowledgable folk were the right ones to ask!

The problem is solved and the car is back to running its finest of 8-9psi.

The problem was as DumHed described, no port for the boost control vac hose to contact to the intake. Got that sorted and all is now sorted regarding the 'infinate' boost levels.

I still have a boost leak somewhere in the system but I'll do as EViL80E suggested and create a boost leak tester to find the culprit.

Cheers Guys!
