hey guys...
looking to put a half cage in my 180 and just looking for a bit of info.

am going to use 2 or 2 1/2 inch pipe, and run it from b-pillar to b-pillar and have 2 spaced evenly apart to run down to the boot evenly spaced...

my questions are:

does anyone know any legal information about welding in or bolting in the cage?

would it be better to use 2 or 2 1/2 inch pipe?

would it be easier to mock it up with plastic pipe and joiners first?

and does anyone have any pics of there half cage they can add to this post for ideas?

im pretty sure ill have to cut my trims on either side about bicept height when you sit in the car but behind the seat if that makes sense.

thanks for all the help you can give me, will post before/during/after picks for anyone who wants to see how my mess turns out :)

is this going to be street registed?
meaning are you going to have an engineer mod plate it...

im not up to putting a cage in mine yet but if i understand correctly 6 point cages that are padded can be engineered provided there installed correctly im unaware of aditional information thats about all iv heard ( heard from a family member who is an auto engineer )

feel free to correct me if anyone else has insite

Kurtis...

Get a hold of the CAMS handbook for a guide on what they allow. Consult with an engineer.

A cage is not a 'she'll be right' endeavour.

...and work out what the cage is for, from what ive read, in order to comply with at least some cams specs, the cage wont be engineerable/road legal.

ie some need to be welded in, and from my understanding thats a no no for road registered cars.... :-?

A welded in cage is fine for a road registered car (how else do the rally and targa boys get by?), BUT it can't have side intrusion bars, and must be padded anywhere that an occupant of the vehicle may be able to come in contact with it. A cage will need to be engineered also.

Sure, but that's an expensive,one-off that can only be used on that day,as part of an event that you're pre-registered as having entered.
Most club level guys couldn't afford to do that everytime they feel like using the car.

The few guys I know who compete regularly have normal road registration and engineer's certificates for their mods.
