Hey everyone!!

I've got a 180sx type x that i just bought.

Now the first mods im looking at are handling and braking mods. Probably braking first. So im thinking of grabbing r33 gtr brembos all round. Would this take extensive mods to my 180 or would it be largely bolt on? What sort of price range am i looking at roughly for the complete conversion?

Thanks guys

It's not strictly bolt on.
Best approach is to do a 5 stud conversion at the same time. You'll need the callipers, discs, master cylinder and new brake hoses.

You'll also need the complete handbrake assembly, and will also have to drill out your knuckles to take the larger diameter mounting bolts.

You won't see change from $3k and that'll be doing it yourself.

Most people get by with an R33 GTS-T front brake upgrade. That is a lot less involved and costs less than half what the brembos will set you back.

It's only the r34 brembos that need drilling fergo, 32 and 33 are ok.

They are overkill for 99% of s13's.

Stick with the sumitomo's off the 33/34 gtst and you'll do the job for a lot less. The performance gain from the brembo would be negligible.

R34GTT callipers use the larger bolts too.
I didn't know there was any difference in the brembos between R33 and R34 other than colour, and thought they both used the larger bolt size.

Thanks for the info.

from memory the R33 Brembos use the same diameter bolt, but it's a different thread so you can't use the original Silvia bolts.

Hey I'm doing the exact thing (well trying to)...

Does that mean you will need to buy R33 GTR hub because of the different thread? Or are talking about something else here?

Is there anyone out there with a GTR caliper upgrade on their S13? I'm trying to get wheels that will clear the calipers without getting ridiculously wide wheels and having to modify my guards...

The thread is in the caliper, so if you can get the original bolts with the caliper it'll bolt straight up (might need a spacer / washer if the bolt is too long).
It's easy to get replacements if necessary.

I used to have R32 GTR brakes on the S13 and basically any wheels that cleared the S14/15/R32/Z32 4 pots seemed to fit ok.

With the R33 GTR brakes you might have a little bit more trouble finding suitable wheels, but I would have thought most 17s that clear the usual 4 pots would be ok.

R33 GTR wheels fit well :P
