Hey guys... just another question. My SR seems to lag when i put my foot down, like it doesn't seem to get an instant hit of power like other cars (it's not turbo lag cause i don't have a turbo). What parts would i need to be checking/changing to remove this problem????

I've servicing soon (new synthetic 5w/30 engine oil, o/filter, a/filter, plugs, etc), transmission is being serviced soon, what else would i need to give a once over to?

does it cough and hesitate, or just not make power?

O2 sensor could be bad, plug leads, distributor cap, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator (vacuum leak), temp sensor, etc, etc, etc

Ignition timing is a possibility, or clogged / melted cat.

Best thing would be to get someone with a consult cable to plug in and see if it's behaving normally.

well... basically... it seems to push harder in second than in first... but if i put my foot down in first i get an slow response... however in second it seems to fly.

eg)

Foot down in first steady acceleration even when foot is completely down, I wouldn't be able to make a wheel spin if i wanted to no matter how hard i tried

1st to 2nd is a big jump in speed and acceleration

2nd to 3rd slightly less dramatic acceleration and speed
etc

New cat (1 month) - no temp sensor on cat, new exhaust (1 month), new o2 sensor (1 day), fuel filter changed about 5000k's ago...

so where else could i go to check what's what? (meaning when else could i personally try out on the car... short of any computer work/ electrical work).

try not flooring it 100% and see if it runs better (like 90% throttle might make more power than 100%)

There's not really anything that should limit the power in 1st, but these cars have often had weird things done to them.

Is the engine original or was it converted?

Auto / manual?

I would've said that it was all original, due to the fact that the compliance and vin/engine plates all match up, but due to the fact that when i took it to get the exhaust done the cat had been completely punched out i'm not so sure.

auto 4 speed
sr20de na

but as far as i can tell nothing else had been done to it.

could be a bad TPS maybe (throttle position sensor)
The auto TPS is a very common problem.

well... i've replaced the o2 sensor... and it seems more responsive... but now i'm getting a whistling... so i figure that i need to tighten it as it's probably leaking from there... <sigh>... if only things went as easy as things should be...
