So I was really hoping I would fix this on my own so the first topic I started wasn't a desperate plea for help, but anyway...

I have a ca18de s13 Silvia, manual. It's been sitting in my shed for the last few weeks and finally decided to get it out for a drive on Sunday. Turned teh key and nothing - no reds, no nothing. I figure, fine, dud battery, and replaced it. Still no dice. Changed the alternator fuse today (75 amp fusible link as per a thread I found searching on here) and again, no good.

Basically there is no power going from the battery to anything else - no headlights, no interior light, nothing. I have looked around the engine bay and crawled underneath the car as best I could (just moved and don't have all my tools yet, so no jack) and didn't see anything that screamed "hey I've fallen off!". Only potential issue I can see is that the alternator cable appears to have some damage to it.

So my question is, if the alternator cbale has a break in it, would that break the circuit resulting in no electrical power, or is there something else that I am missing? My last car I worked on was carbs and points, the electrics in this are a touch scary!

Sorry for the novel, if anyone can shed any light it would be much appreciated.

it's a bit hard to know without having a look, but chances are it's just an issue with the battery terminals or the ground cable from the battery to the chassis.

Make sure it's connected solidly.

Do you have a test light or multimeter so you can make sure power is getting somewhere?

There should be 12v between some of the fuses and the chassis, even with nothing turned on.

heyas,
did you check that ur brand new battery was good? since you have put a new battery in the car and the terminals have been pulled apart it would eliminate any ' hotspots ' from the terminals them selfs, im pretty sure you have done the up nice and tight on the new battery?? id be checking that its earthed good after that, make sure its not fouled up with corosion, after that id be makin sure your ecu plug is plugged in propper since you have apsolutly no power nothing im pretty sure it can only be one of thoes things...

since the car was running recently even if your altinator cable was compramised you should still get reds...

not sure if any of the above helped =x

Kurtis
( ur all welcome to now correct me if im wrong :DDD )

Cheers for all the replies guys!

I have checked all the earths and taken all the plugs I can apart and cleaned them with contact cleaner, etc, but still no luck

I am thinking that the ecu plug or the circuit breaker are the next possible culprits. ZEi250t, when you say kick panel do you mean on the driver side where the rest of the fuses are? Or passenger side?

Thanks everyoen for their help, I dare say I will be buying a multimeter next

don't worry about the ECU plug, etc until you have at least something working (headlights, interior light, some of the dash lights, etc will work without the ECU)
