Hey guys,

I tried searching this, but had no luck.

Ive been watching my hand controller alot more lately and taking an interest in every read out, so to speak.

Im just wondering exactly what Knock is and how its measured in regards on a Power FC hand controller (number wise). When is it entering a dangerous zone and what is a safe or typical area in which it should be staying at??

Thanks for the help.

The knock number is the "intensity of knock" being measured via the knock sensor.

Generally, over 60 is deemed to be dangerous - hence being the standard setting for the knock warning light.

If you have the PFC set to record peak numbers, the number shown when you stop driving will be the highest recorded during that drive.
If it's not recording peaks you won't be able to see much unless you happen to be looking at it while there's a high reading.

Most cars tuned well won't see numbers over about 30 in normal use.

It's pretty common for it to get up closer to 60, or slightly over, in track use or high rpm gearchanges. Sometimes it's actual knock, and sometimes it's just picking up mechanical noise.

If you have consistent values much over 30 it might be worth getting it checked out on a dyno.

Ahhh ok. That explains alot. Cheers for that.

Yeah Ive set my Power FC to record peaks. Even with high gear changes or some spirited driving, I havent seen anything over 19. The average is usually between 7-13.

Thanks for that, good to know. Sorta let my mind at ease.

yep, chances are all is fine if those are the numbers you're getting.

Keep an eye on it, and if you start seeing the numbers going up it's a good warning for possible fuel system problems, bad fuel, high temperatures, or spark plug / timing issues.
