hi newb here slight problem i just purchased a 180sx with what the previese owner said was a s14a sr20det but with every thing ive checked on it [ecu-injectors-alternator-engine harness-] it all comes back as s15 so my question is how do i tell as ive heard of ppl useing s15 ecu harness on none s15 engines .if any one can shed sum light on this for me would greatly be appreciated.also i can supply engine numbers -ecu part number anything else wich may help thanks.

Internally there all the same with minor changes an s15 ecu is required to run s15 injectors so I would say it's an s15 motor I highly doubt someone would change loom and injectors as it's a waste of time if anybody is going to change those bits it's better off going aftermarket from the begining

the holes in the cam cover for the coil packs are smaller on the S15 (S14 coils won't fit in an S15 cover) and the S15's standard exhaust manifold doesn't have the protrusion for the EGR connection.
If you were to open it up, the S15 pistons are different - they have an extra oil channel in the crown for cooling.
