Hey guys,

Ok so been a while since I have been on here as I havent had a silvia for a few years. Just picked myself up a clean example of an s14 the otherday, so am back in the SR game :D

Now the clutch seems to be screwing up and I am not quiet sure what is going on. It does not disengage properly when sitting in neutural and trying to put it in gear or when coming to a stop with it in gear and the clutch being pushed all the way in it keeps on grabbing. I have adjusted the pedal, bled the lines etc but with no success, so am a little stumped.

The clutch is pretty heavy anyway and has a really grabby take up (must be a 5 puk or something). So I figure I might aswell just change it to something a bit nicer to drive.

At the moment the car is making around 180-190rwkws and the plan is for about 220-230 later on down the track. So my question is what type of clutch will happily support this power AND MOST IMPORTANTLY is nice to drive? The car is a daily driver so I just wanted something that is driveable in sydney traffic but can still handle the power. Its a fairly modest power figure so I couldnt see myself needing anything too extreme.

So who has what and what are you suggestions?

Can a full disc support this power or will I need to goto a puk clutch?

What sort of clamping pressure do I need 800kgs?

220rwkw or so will suit an organic full face heavy duty clutch like the exedy sports tuff range, which is very streetable.

You could also have a chat to NPC and see what they advise.

I have only heard good things about them.

I used an extreme organic HD for years, it worked well on a 160-190rwkw car (power went up a bit over the years).
When I replaced it I went with a Exedy 5 puck though, with abuse and a bit more power I think the organic might start to get a bit marginal. It could no doubt handle more power than 190rwkw in gentler hands than mine though.

Ok thanks guys..

I was thinking a Exedy HD would be up to the job so I will probly just go down that path.

Have had way to many 5 and even 3 puk clutches in various cars in the past so am just looking for something that is nice and easy to drive. Am getting a little over the shudder shudder shudder everytime you take off from the lights..

If it's any help the 5 puck in mine doesn't shudder at all (my ORC 409D used to though).
There is also the cushion button type, which apparently is nice to drive but i've not used it myself.
Depends on how you intend to drive it I guess :).

the pivot ball sometimes breaks when heavy clutches are used.
I haven't ever broken one, even with stupidly heavy clutches, but have seen broken ones before.
You can get a stronger pivot ball, but if you stick with a semi normal clutch it'll be fine

Could this be a possibility of being my problem? I am guessing it wouldnt be because if that failed I doubt the clutch would work properly at all?

Most of the time coming to a stop the clutch wont disengage, with a little rev while on the brake it will disengage. But then when I go to take off again the clutch doesnt grab until about half way out. Also when in neutural I normally cannot put it into 1st or reverse without having to go 2nd then first or 4th then reverse.

sounds like it's just worn out, but a broken pivot can cause that sort of issue as well.
