Hi guys,

Was driving the car home today, and when i came to the set of red lights the car just turned off on me.
Saw a little bit of smoke come out from the steering wheel column. tried to start the car again, it cranks but wouldnt start.

Had to get the car towed home.
pulled out all the fuses and they all seem intact. some of the electricals still work such as alarm, boost controller, stereo, horn, headlights but some dont work such as the power windows.

Any body had similar experiences, have an idea what the problem is or how to further diagnose the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

sounds like some dodgy alarm / immobiliser wiring in the column has shorted out.

It should be pretty easy to fix, but you may find there's a blown fusable link in the engine bay fuse box.

yep, sounds like a short in some dodgy wiring.

If you're lucky it's just a tidy up of the wiring and a new fusible link, if your unlucky it's taken the immobiliser with it so it'll need fixing/replacing.

problem fixed.

turned out that there was too much current going through one of the wires for the immobiliser and it fried.

Thanks for the help guys.
