Whenever I go on track days I end up with a lot of petrol running down the side of the car out of the filler. Actually I've been told it spews out on the track when I turn left. It does it even on half tank.

I bought a new cap but it still does the same thing. I see in the manual that the filler cap has a pressure release so as this is the only way out I'm assuming that my tank must be too pressurized, maybe? Does anyone know where to start with this?

Could this be perhaps the "Evaporative emission (EVAP) system"? That's just something an old corvette guy suggested and I see the silvia has one.

(Fuel pump has been replaced with Skyline one, if they matters)

one thing to try:check out the restrictor neck. it's common for these to be poorly sealed and allow the tank to leak.

as fergo said.

remove the fuel cap and check the metal neck if its loose. repco sells a fuel tank sealing cement which is quiet effective. some people also use sikaflex but dont know how this lasts in the long run.

do you get a strong petrol smell in you cabin when just driving normally?

Well this looks like a problem, the flap doesn't shut completely.

I wish it was loose maybe i could replace it, it's secure as hell, but doesn't shut.

I'll have a go at lubricating those springs, hopefully that fixes it and I don't need to work out how to remove it.

Not really, however I was fumigated with something on the drive home from Marulan which had me feeling pretty shitty. I blamed exhaust coming in through a few holes in my floor and boot which I'm definitely plugging asap.

Thanks for the replies, I don't think leaking around the side is my problem though, it looks very well sealed, I think it's the flap which doesn't close :( I'm going to get onto Autosport, they sell new ones and hopefully have some experience in removing and installing them.
