hey all i have a 1995 180sx n today my tacho stoped working reason being i took the dash out to put in a shift light but didnt end up putting it in cause i didnt have the time so put it all back together n now my tacho dont work havent cut any wires or splised in to anything yet just unpluged it then pluged it back in. later tried my friends dash it came out of a s13 sr20de 1991 i think dont no if theres a differnce in them n the rpm gauge didnt work on that ether put a volt meter to the tacho wire n it read 3.9 is this normal or have i fried the pinout on my ecu by accident n dose this mean i got to get another computer i dont no any input would be great

ok did some testing today had a old after market tacho n hooked that up didnt work at first n im like damn then disconected the dash n left after market one connected n bam it works connect the dash back up n stops working pulled the standerd tacho out wired it up with after market one both not working disconnected the signal wire from standerd tacho after markit one works just wired up the standerd one by its self not working got my mates dash from the older model n samething as above ether i have a faulty wire or both standerd tachos r stuffed ?? or my dash is stuffed his is fine but run on differnt signals going to test mine in his car n see what happens.

this is very strange to me

ok cheaked dashs in friends car both work cheacked the voltage from his tacho wire 0.93 where as mine is 3.93 so to conclude fried a risister in th ecu god damn it going to try n get something from jay car to lower the voltage of mine for the time beeing dont think has fried anything else in the ecu car runs fine just tacho dont work will change ecu asap but when i can get hold of one

ok temperally fixed got a varable ristor n tuned it in should be right seeming the tacho runs off pulses i think but will be getting another computer asap so if ur tacho goes n u cant figure out y try a varable risistor in the line n if it works then u no u fried the risistor in the ecu or the risistor has worn out

ok i will try, changed the varable risistor to a 1k risistor, spliced one side in to wire otherside goes to ground. reason i did this was so that the risistance did not change, due to hot n cold weather and now i no the tacho is going to work all the time. :wink:
