At the moment my stock-ish S13 CA18DET has a pretty much brand new Apexi pod filter kit on it.

For legality, I'm wondering if it is worth reverting to the stock airbox and snorkel, and putting a new decent panel filter in and cutting a hole in the bottom of the airbox.

I don't anticipate that I will be modifying the engine of the car any further than what I have already - ie. turbo-back exhaust and an ARC side mount intercooler.

Will I notice any difference in response or intake temps?

Edit: I guess the other option is to have a custom enclosure made up...worthwhile?

With the smic you should have no issue getting a stock box in there.

It's not worth the headache of being defected when you have such an easy solution.

Yeah, I still have my stock airbox and all bits and pieces sitting here and I know for sure it fits, just wanted to find out everyones opinion on whether or not it is worthwhile.

I would definitely put stock box back on
I just put my stock box back on last week and cut a hole at the bottom to try to get some more noise happening
Definitely not worth the defect

I've still got the std box in and even a paper filter...

Still makes 232rwkW (SR though) so there doesn't seem to be much of a difference..

Cam.

Keep the pod to maintain maximum dose, also get a metal intake with at least 90degree bend.

Airboxes are for hondas

well why dont you have best of both worlds and try to find a pod which will fit inside an air box and have a cai into the bottom. thats what i'm thinking of doing after i get off defect.

any pod that will fit inside the stock box will have less surface area than the stock panel

What's the fascination with pods other than some noise and a quick install? The reason why a factory airbox restricts your power is not just because of the filter but because it is restricted by it's snorkel... just open it up and feed it cool air to give no compromise max performance + min defects :)

What he said, the CA box from memory has a restrictive looking snorkel out one side, give it another feed either straight through the front or bottom of the box and it'll never be your restriction.
The SR airbox has a hole in it big enough to get your hand through even when stock, doubt it restricts much of anything :).

Hey Guys!

since we're on the topic of air boxes and such, i was thinking of getting a custom made enclosed air box with a snorkel as a cai, the box will be made out of aluminium is that recommended?
i had a mate who did a similar thing but the material that his air box is made out of was fiberglass as he said its better made with that material then aluminium?
the price for it to be made is around $200 mark. both the aluminum and fiberglass.

You would think that alloy keeps more heat out than fiberglass wouldnt you...
