Post subject:  S14 exhaust options

Hi guys,

I am currently weighing up options for an S14 exhaust system.

Car is making 207RWKW and daily driven.

So far my new system consists of:
-KTS bellmouth dump and twin 60mm front pipe (for better ground clearance)

For these rest of the system I have the following requirments:
- not too loud, i want to be able to cruise all day at 110 and arrive home from late shift without waking everyone
- rear muffler with discrete twin tip design
- maintain good ground clearance

Have decided to go with a custom system, as I hate the ground clearance and cannon design of all the Jap ones.

Are these Varex things worth the money, my main concern is that with the valve fully open it will be over the DB limit. I could possibly get around this by fitting a decent size centre muffler, but this would not be good for ground clearance.

Also Ceramic VS metal cats? at my current power level does it really make that much difference. Was thinking and ebay X-force ceramic one for $180 would be fine. Also a slightly more restrictive cat would actually shut it up more.

My current idea is X-force or other brand 3" ceramic cat, long resonator or two (if possible). Then as large an offset rear muffler as I can fit.

I don't really know, but it looks like "Big Barrel Oval Twin & Single Tip Muffler" MP01 and MP02 are supposed to be pretty quite.

I guess with a middle muffler system is supposed to be pretty close to 90db..

Then again, I don't know as haven't tried it.

i have test fitted the varex to my car and 2 of my other mates, a supercharged magna with straight through exhaust pipe (no restrictions at all) and also wrx sti

the varex is unbelievably effective, i was quite suprised ! well below the db limit when the valve is closed, but when it's open, its loud as...
exactly the same as a cannon..

I was thinking of these mufflers too. I know that x-force sell them and say theres been alot of development regarding back pressure and assuring no damage to the engine while the valve is shut. Still not sure of that one.

Do u reckon the EPA would notice and rule these mufflers out? On u-tube u can clearly see the butterfly valve open and close as its a brand new muffler (maybe when worn in and everythings black). I wonder if it would be noticeable. I know this doesnt make a difference for emissions if u have no cat, fuel reg etc.

My car is stupid quiet at the moment. But it gets very boring not hearing my engine properly, thats why im into cars in the first place.

Post subject:  Varex Mufflers

Put a varex in. I have tried a range of mufflers including the x-force twin tips. They are just as loud as a cannon but without the look. I have a varex twin tip on my s14 and the butterfly isnt even noticeable. Nice note when open and just close it when you go past coppers or coming home from work.
