I have 180sx on G4 coilovers. Also have front and rear strut braces front caster rods and rear camber arms. I use car for street and drift.

I have a lot of understeer even on new rubber up front.
My alignment is front:
-1 Camber
1mm toe in each side
+7 caster

rear:
0 toe
-.5 camber

Also wondering what people are running for their silvias.

your alignment is crap for drift,or even normal street work.

run 2deg. neg camber up front, with 2mm total toe OUT.

rear,1.4deg neg camber,2mm total toe IN.

should turn in a bit nicer with that.

Thanks.

Does caster play any role in handling? I read that more caster better straight line, less caster better turn in, or something like that...

more caster improves stability at speed, give faster self-centering,and more dynamic negative camber.
steering effort will also be increased, but as you have power steering you won't notice that.

less caster gives the opposite.

do you run swaybars? if so and theyre adjustable, try stiffening the rear.

The rear is stiff enough if you know what G4 coilover is...

I blame the front set up.

They are disaster on street that's no brainer, but i find them pretty good for track or drift.

yeah, the G4s are stiff as!
what tyres you running & as billy stated, got upgraded/adj swaybars?

What are your new tyres?
I have no understeer issues with my car even though the front tyres are pretty middle of the road.

Khumo Ecsta ST117 (or something like that) up front, 215/45R17
Front:
0 toe
2.5 degrees camber
7 degrees castor

Rear:
0 toe
1 degree camber

My spring rates are 7/5kg front rear but i didn't really have any issues before with 10/8kg springs.

Things like a tight LSD will promote front end push at times, i have a KAAZ 2 way but it's fine as is.

I've got a R32 GTR rear sway and a fat aftermarket one of some kind up front.

I wouldn't want to run more toe out on the front of mine really, it's probably make it pretty darty. It's already a bit darty feeling if I start driving the Silvia after spending a week in a 'normal' car of some kind (but it only takes a minute to get used to).

You got your dampers set full soft?

I'm going to disagree a little and say if you are going to get an alignment again leave the rear but add a touch more camber to the front and go 0 toe up front as well. Max out the castor.

Tires are Potenza GIII 235/45/17 rear & Adrenalin 215/45/17 front.
Stock swaybars. I dun really feel the need for other sway bars. Maybe thicker on rear...

how much thicker is rear GTR sway bar, does it bold on?

EDIT: Caster doesn't go more then +6.5 on new rubber. I should have got 40 for the front

gtr swaybar bolts straight on the rear to s13 chassis.
its a good upgrade if u can get the swaybar at a good price.
play around with your dampers, obviously not full soft as that won;t help.

I did the sways later on in the life of the car.

I run generally run all my dampers as soft as possible. Your tyres sound like they are probably better than mine!

When does it understeer?

With really stiff suspension you'll find the car bucking and skipping on corners with any bumps in them and the thing will slip sideways as the tyres unload.

Car bounced around like that on original G4 springs and 215/40R18".

Runs smoother now on thicker rubber 45R17 and softer springs. My mate just picked up his 180 yesterday. It's on D2 (same as G4) and it bounces too f***ing much. It's freakin good for drift or track tho. No need for sway bars really. So, coilovers are not the issue here.

Anyways back to the topic... It darts in and holds grip on left hand corners. And seems to play up on right handers mainly.

Understeer starts early mid corner right after turn in. It feels weird when it does that. I also noticed there is a click as more load is applied to left wheel. And again it can't be a coilover. As if something is not tight enough and chassis geometry changes under load. Cos when I re-aligned to above specs it got better but didn't go away completely.
