Hey guys, very over it. got defected a while back by the decc for an emission test. put my standard exhaust back in,standard cooler and airbox too. This is the second time i failed cause the standard ca18det airbox didnt have a snorkel on it,load of shit(i even attached my bros skyline snorkel to it but that wasnt good enough).

Does anyone have this particular snorkel for the ca18det airbox, called a few wreckers and they dont have it. Or has anyone hav seen this at a wreckers in sydney? that they could suggest?

Really cant put in words how over it i am. cheers guys. Rick.

Hey mate, I have a full CA18DET airbox including snorkel.

I don't mind if you borrow it (for free) but I would like it back in case the same thing ever happens to me.

Send me a PM, I'm located in Cremorne.

I asked the guy who inspected the car at roseville "whats the story if u have an engineers certificate?" cause i recently bought a 180sx with an rb25 in it which has a custom airbox which is closed off. He said it doesnt matter, the cops are told if anything looks different it should return back to standard as with the intercooler, also said after market fuel regs arent allowed to. These guys also take photos of the your car once its all cleared to prove its legit again then fax it off the DECC. Only 4 shops around sydney have the license to approve these too.

Sounds like the goverment is keen to make it alot harder for us to drive our cars basically as i got pulled over just driving past manly beach. Driving record is perfect, didnt make a difference, all they said was it sounds kinda loud, take it to this place to get it checked. Id like to know how they figured it was too loud anyway? So if it wasnt id still have to pay then? They didnt check my exhaust with anything, cost me $60 each time to get it cleared. Plus obviously taking time off work, finally passed the 3rd time.

Anyway i can bitch and moan about the cops and it wont make a difference, only thing i wanna do is make it stupid easy for us to get these defects cleared from the DECC. Got the factory airbox covered for a ca18det s13,all we need is a standard intercooler with piping as i had to borrow that. Exhaust is optional,i put a standard one back in for the defect but i have heard some guys passed just modifying theres. Also are sr20 airboxes different from the ca18det? Never seen one with it on.

Wouldnt tak much to accumulate these factory parts just incase they are needed for these circumstances. Cheers guys.

Hey Rick I deposited the cash back into your account last night, cheers for returning the snorkel. :)

It's a bit worrying that this is happening in areas that typically don't see defects being handed out like flyers.... :-?

Edit: SR airboxes are also different from CA items.

The EPA is part of the Department of Environment and Climate Change which is federal.

This can happen in any state, it just depends on how much the police officer dislikes you.

My engineers came with the car from the previous owner, receipt for it says $930 and its from TIC.

As for these defects, yeah its all just about ur luck in getting pulled over. Ive had jap import cars for 8 years now n ive only been defected twice so i guess thats not bad odds(sucks hard when it happens but). The wreckers are on to this as well charging more than usual for standard parts like exhaust, airboxes n intercoolers. At one stage when they had an airbox they wanted $170 for it. Over these guys too.

Definitely would be cool if we could get our hands on a standard exhaust or intercooler as these defects would be piss easy to get cleared. Il keep my eye out for these parts from other forums too if they go for a good price. Feels like we're sticking it to the man! Ha ha. That exactly what they dont want,to make it easy for us.
